daycare in Del Ray or Alexandria?

I am looking for a day care center or an in home provider for my daughter, who is currently 13 months.  If I wanted to start her in the fall, when are the applications due? Any recommendations would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

Re: daycare in Del Ray or Alexandria?

  • Since no one's replied, I'll dive in! I don't have any experience with in-home providers in Alx. As for daycare centers, there are several in Old Town--American Day School, St. Anthony's, Great Beginnings, Bluebird--all with long waitlists. If you want your DD to start in the fall, you should get on a list now. I belive almost all of the centers in Old Town have good reputations but definitely check the VA DSS website first, where you can read daycare inspection reports. Also, check over on DC Urban Moms listserv (www.dcurbanmom.com). There are lots of people over there who can give you the scoop on individual centers.

There isn't really an application "due date" for the centers. If they have a spot, they call you, regardless of when it falls during the year. Some centers have application fees of up to $100, others don't.

    Good luck!

  • For in-home- what part of Alexandria (I am assuming old town but just wanted to check)?

For a center- I would definitely apply now but for in-home- you could start calling around but I would think providers would wait until summer since they probably would not want to hold the place for 6-8 months.
