pureed chicken noodle soup fail

so I decided to start introducing meats - and was trying to be a nice mommy and made pureed chicken noodle soup (home made)

yeah

he likes the perfect consistancy of the baby food jars

he gagged really bad and puked up the dinner he just ate

FAIL

how do you introduce different textures? He doesn't seem to be getting much better with puffs either and gags really bad with almost every one.

    Poor little guy...

Evan was to the point where he just wanted nothing to do with baby food...and wanted our food.  We just offer him various things...somethings he likes, and other things he throws on the floor.

    Have you tried mashed potatoes?

I made mashed potatoes for him - but - long story - I had to throw them away. (ha) So i need to make them again.

He likes pureed food - anything in a jar, but everything else I've tried (baby oatmeal even mixed with his favorite fruit, plain adult applesauce, pureed chicken noodle soup) he gags up.

He also gags on all of the solid things we've tried like cheese, puffs, and pieces of banana of avocado.  He willingly eats them - so he wants them (or thinks he does) but for some reason can't handle any texture at all.

So basically so far, he gags on 100% of things that aren't a perfect baby food smooth puree or baby yogurt. :/

Joseph took about a month to master puffs, and still occasionally gags on one.

I *always* do textures at the beginning and follow up w/ purees (the bulk of his food) in case he pukes on the chunky stuff.  That way he will still get the puree after.

also, you can get jar-texture smooth by using a food processor and buzzing the hell out of stuff with some water.

Kaylee still gags on everything too. Even the oatmeal if it's too thick. (we're in the process of getting her to see the developmental specialist that her brother sees at Riley because of her weight - i'll be sure to talk to them about this)

DS was a big fan of chicken and stars, because the noodles are so small and slippery. Have you tried that - i've bought alphabet noodles at meijer that are that small for homemade.

My nephew (same age as Jake) gags still alot too.  I like pp's advice because I have none, but I wanted to say I'm sorry...

I have no advice. Tyson still gags with most things that aren't the perfect texture of a puree.

I did add water and did use the food processor really really really well - I thought it was smooth enough. (I couldn't get it any smoother.) I guess not.

The reason I didn't do the texture stuff first (before his jarred food) is because if I give him a texture he doesn't like that makes him gag, he won't eat at all. He won't follow it up with purees. He'll clamp his mouth shut and decide he's all done.

We started Puffs about 3 weeks ago with no real progress - maybe slight at best - but maybe another couple of weeks will help.

No real advice but I'll send some hugs.  Like Evan, Lily just decided she wasn't going to eat purees if we were eating.  So we just started giving small pieces of what we were eating, then I started giving her whole peas and carrots, we took a drastic leap after that.

I have no idea what to tell you, other than to keep trying, I guess. Ben didn't have any problems with new textures.  Well, other than "exploring" it with his hands, so he always ended up filthy.

I'm a speech therapist...When I worked at a pediatric rehab clinic, we often introduced solids/semi-solids by adding a few VERY small pieces into a favorite puree.  Try to keep the tastes in the same family (small chunks of peach within peach puree) and work baby up to taking bites with more solid and less puree.

The most important thing is to try to keep feeding time pleasurable--so if it's a FAIL--don't push it.  Good luck :)
