When I ran out of the ones from the hospital I used those big incontinence pads for a week, and then just thick menstrual pads (with wings) until it lightened up, and then I used panty liners for a few days.
buy the thick ones of your preferred brand. I bought thin ones and they were just ok. Always infinity were the worst. They didn't hardly absorb anything, it all just stayed on top of the pad, yeah tmi.
I liked the thin Always pads. My biggest suggestion for you is to make sure you ask for and take several pairs of the mesh panties. These were awesome for the first 2 weeks with a fresh incision.

I definitely agree with taking the mesh panties. I took a ton of them (was told I could take any supplies from the room that weren't cloth) and boy was I glad I did...am just now able to wear normal underwear, as they would bother my incision too much even though I healed really well. They sell them at BBB for 3.00 a pair...ridiculous.

By day 2 I was barely bleeding....I used always ultra thin-green package, yellow pad covers (small)....they are super absorbant. I'm barely bleeding now and I use the light days.
I didn't bleed much after the first week, so I used the hospital pads I was able to take home, then just whatever I use for my regular periods after that.
A piece of advice I was given that was great was to take some long pads (I used the hospital ones for this too) and put them horzintally over your incision in the beginning. That acted as an extra barrier and my pants/underwear didn't irritate the incision as much, plus I just felt more protected. I did that for about a week.
Re: c/s momma to be....pads?
This but I put thin panty liner pads under with wings since the hospital pads they gave me didn't have wings!
I like the pads from the hospital, and I like Kotex overnights.
