Are you reusing/ have you reused a lot from DC #1 or do you find yourself buying new? What things did you reuse and what are you/ did you buy new for DC #2? I am mainly trying to decide about clothes and toys (swings, entertainers, bouncy seats), bottles...
I can't decide what I want to save for DC #2 and what I want to consign. (We plan to ttc in 2011) I am afraid if I do keep all the baby stuff I will end up re-buying the latest and greatest and sacrificing resale value on what I have now.
Re: pregnant again or 2+ kids....
This baby's a girl, so we'll be getting a new wardrobe for her...
We'll reuse the crib/changing table (DS will move ito a big bed in a month or so), stroller, swing, bouncy seat, monitor, etc... The new things I have gotten have been fun things, like blankets, bedding, and clothes.
ETA: Oh! We did get a new rocker for the nursery b/c we went very cheap with DS's and I hated it. We also got an Ergo b/c the hotsling and Bjorn sucked for me.
Well, I registered for gender neutral "big ticket" items in hopes that we will use them again. So far I have bascially kept everything (stroller, infant seat, high chair, swing, playmat, clothes, bottles, bouncy seat, jumperoo).I am not going to save the sippy cups...only the ones that DS tried and didn't like.
If we do ever have another child, after we find out the gender, I will decide what to do with the clothes. DS was born in Sept. and I want the next baby to be born in Spring, so we won't be able to use all of the clothes if the next one would be another boy.So, I would go through and pick out what the next baby should be able to wear. If it turns out to be a girl, I am definitely getting rid of DS' clothes.
We will need new bedding for #2 if it is a girl. The bedding was one of the only things I didn't go gender neutral on (and only b/c I couldn't find anything that I really liked!).
We re-used EVERYTHING except pink clothes (#1 was a girl and #2 was a boy).
We are reusing all the big things, highchair, pack n play, jumperoo....etc...
#2 is a girl so she will need new clothes but we are reusing sleepsacks and swaddles(even blue), pjs, and neutral things like jeans and khakis.
We are getting a double stroller so we'll be selling ours in a couple months. And we got new nursery furniture, ds is keeping his.
We are reusing all of the same clothes (though we got some new as gifts), bottles, car seat, toys, etc etc. We got him a new crib because DS1 is still in his. We also bought a new bassinet because we didn't have one originally.
Honestly, I would just keep what you have now. Buy a few cool new things with #2, but it seems like such a waste to sell it all for a fraction of what it will cost to rebuy in a couple years! IMO it's much more fun to have that extra money for things you wouldn't normally get, ykwim?
We are reusing just about everything, since we have 2 boys and they are only 16 months apart. We bought a new stroller (phil & teds sport with the jump seat), a new crib, furniture and bedding (we kept ds#1 in his room and did another nursery). The big items (swing, pnp, bouncy chairs, etc) are all being re-used, as are the bottles, etc and clothes. The clothes, actually, are a little out of control because my sister has two boys, ages 18 months and 6 months plus my two guys. I could have just had triplet boys and still had too many clothes!
All of this being said, I get what you are saying about getting better resale value now as opposed to waiting. If my guys were further apart in age and my stuff was older, I would probably want to upgrade, too. It's a tough call.
We're reusing almost everything. Since we're having another girl and the seasons will be fairly in-line, we'll reuse most clothes. I've picked up a few new outfits just b/c I think they're cute, and I want DD2 to have some clothes that aren't hand-me-downs.
The only major piece of gear that we know for sure we'll buy will be another Marathon car seat, once DD2 moves up from the infant seat. I also want a new soother of some kind, since we attached our old one to DD1's bed rails in her twin bed b/c she still likes and uses it.
I'm not going to sell our bouncer, exersaucer, swing, infant seat, etc. -- it's all gender-neutral, has held up perfectly well, and we'll use and keep it until we're sure we're not having any more kids. If it doesn't sell for much when we do put it on CL, I don't care. I'm sure I'll save more money by using what we have than I would make by selling it anyway.
I don't think that there will be so much difference in, say, a bouncy seat or swing that I'm going to feel like I have to have the latest and greatest.
