Re: first timer and obviously curious

  • I am a second timer, and I am honestly afraid that I will not know. My water broke first with DD and then I gradually started contractions so I am afraid that I wont know until it is too late...lol. I only remember horrible pain towards the end with DD.

  • I'm a first timer myself but at the hospital earlier they said you'll know its a real contraction if you touch the top of your stomach and its as hard as if you were pushing on your forehead. Like it doesnt give in any at all. That means its a real contraction. Big Smile Sorry, thats all I got, hope it helps!
  • Uncomfortness?

  • Butting in from 3-6... but with me I knew. I started with these different cramps that just got progressively worse as the night went on. It was unlike anything I had felt...especially once the back pain started.

Everyone is different, as I am sure you have heard but I just thought I'd share my experience!

  • I still have trouble telling between gas/indigestion pains and contrax sometimes. :) Sometimes I'm not really sure until I go to the bathroom and they go away, so then I know it wasn't a contraction.

When I get them in the middle of the night and I can count to at least 45-60 before I stop feeling uncomfortable, and especially if I get more than one, then I know they're contrax.

During my first pregnancy, whether or not they were time-able/regular was my big clue. I had a few instances of early, time-able contrax and one of them was enough to send me to L&D (luckily I just needed more fluids).

Me too!  The problem is that everyone is really different, too, so no one can really tell you what your contractions are going to feel like.  I'd say once the contraction (or whatever it is) is regular, then you should call/go to L&D.  At least, that is what I've decided I'll do.  :)

. . .and if it is a false alarm, I won't be the first pregnant women to go to L&D for indigestion.

  • i really have no idea and i am a second timer, i just figure if it keeps on coming and doeskin stop its contractions time to call or go in to the hosptial
  • You will know for sure when they come regularly and intensify over time! No way to confuse that with indigestion/uncomfortableness in my opinion!!!
  • I'm scared that I'm going to be that girl that doesn't know when she is in labor. I'm sure once the time comes I will know, but it still frightens me because I haven't done this before! lol
