My son is 9 weeks old and I have been using the lavender bath soap for his baths at night, my pediatrician said that it was not good to use on boys. Has anyone else been told this and are you using it on boys?
I haven't been told this, but I also haven't asked! We use the lavender bedtime bath and lotion when we give LO a bath at night. We use Burt's Bees when we give him one during the day.
I have heard that lavendar has extra estrogen in it so it is not the best to use with boys. Don't quote me on that though. I think anything that can be used to calm the body is a good thing.

FWIW, I've read those studies and they are not compelling at all. They basically studied a few boys with gynomastia (breast tissue development) and while all the boys had used lavender scented products, those products also contained a lot of other substances that could have contributed - other herbal compounds, synthetic products, etc. Moreover, there could have easily been more in common (such as other environmental or genetic factors) that could not be ruled out as contributing. It would be like finding 5 women with freckles and saying "oh, they all use Pantene shampoo - therefore Pantene causes freckles." In other words, the studies were poorly designed and controlled.
I wouldn't sweat it. The number of children who have been bathed with lavender scented products is enormous and there is not a rash of young men needing training bras out there.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Woah. We use it with DS and bath time is going so well we're going to do everything we can to manage to bath him every night with J&J to establish a sleepy-time routine.
Hmmm... I don't want to believe the connection, but I guess I'll ask his pediatrician.
Re: Lavender bedtime soap for boys?
I use it for my DS. I didn't ask therefore I wasn't told no. Did they give you a reason why you shouldn't use it?
