I use a mail order pharmacy for my BCP's, and I get 3 months worth at a time. Last weekend I took my last one, and placed my order on Sunday. Well I need to start my new pack today, and they're not here yet. I tracked the package and they've been in Greensboro since the 27th! So I'm not sure what the hold up is! I can only assume they'll be here tomorrow (but I also assumed they'd be here by like last Friday).
I have a prescription I could go get filled, but it was written last May. Would they still take it? I had gotten one prescription at my 6 week pp checkup, and that's what I've been using (I didn't get my first pp period until 16 weeks pp, so I didn't fill it for awhile after that visit). Then at my annual exam, my gyn wrote another one, which is the one I have.
Obviously, with the roads being so awful, I'm wondering if it's worth getting out to get it filled. I'd only have to drive about a mile. If the package arrives tomorrow, I'll already have to take 2, and it would be in the afternoon. I usually take them first thing in the morning. It's not the mini-pill, so I guess time of day isn't as important. But, if they don't come Tuesday, I think I'd already be too far gone, and would have to wait until the next month, right?
Ugh... why didn't I refill it before I was out? Grrr... WWYD? Brave the roads, or just hope/assume the mail order one will arrive tomorrow, and take today's and tomorrow's pill then? Or just skip a month of BCP's and take other precautions? (Which means DH will probably avoid me like the plague. hehe)

Re: Ugh. Perfect timing.. (re: BCP's)
I think I'd call the pharmacy and make sure they'll take the script written in May and then try to venture out later this afternoon to get it. I know when I've missed them in the past and then tried to take a couple at a time, it sometimes made me feel sick.
And I don't think I'd want to have to go off of them for a month.
My Sweet Girls
This. I think if it was the middle of your pack and you forgot and had to take two it would be different than starting off missing the first two pills. When I used BCP taking two at once would make me feel sick. I would try to fill the prescription (call first) and if you can't then just take the two pills maybe one in the afternoon and one at night. I would not want to skip a whole month either. Stupid snow.
Yeah, I have taken 2 before and it luckily has never made me feel sick. They weren't the first 2 in the pack though (not sure if that matters).
But I think I will brave the roads, especially since it would all be main roads. I don't want to deal with skipping a pack right now, and I'm not feeling confident that the mail order ones will be here tomorrow...
Thanks for the info about them being good up to a year, MrsLee. Good to know!
I would call the pharmacy before you head out to see if they can fill it. Since they just filled 3 months through the mail order, your insurance may deny the claim since they just covered 3 packs (even though they haven't gotten to you). Unless you don't mind paying out of pocket.
Your pills may arrive tomorrow, if it was me I would just wait. You could always start the pack 1 week late, just use back up for this month.
Thanks AKH! I actually called our prescription coverage company, and they told me they would honor the override, and I went and got it filled at the pharmacy. Luckily, the roads to it weren't bad at all! Crisis averted! hehe...
