DH and I will be in San Diego the 9th-14th for his work convention. We are staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt (I think that's what it's called?). Neither one of us have been to San Diego before.
I will have the mornings/early afternoons to myself to relax, wander and explore. DH will be available in the late afternoons and evenings. Any recommendations on what to do, where to eat, places to go/not go? We will not have a rental car, so I need suggestions that are in walking distance or easy to get to via taxi or other public transportation.
Kind of a silly question, but what should I pack?? We're coming from frigid northern MN where I wear very casual (jeans and sweaters/fleece) clothes everyday. I am clueless when it comes to packing for other climates, lol.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Visiting San Diego next week, advice?
I agree with the pp's advice. You will not need a car. The downtown area is really small. I would suggest riding the ferry to Coronado (you can pick it up by all the boats downtown). From there you can walk around, but I would take a cab to the Hotel Del Coronado. It's beautiful! If you want you can rent bikes and take them over on the ferry to Coronado or just ride them around downtown. There are plenty of places for beautiful sunset dinner views downtown.
I have to disagree with what to bring to wear though. Although shoes and socks are not necessary during the day, it really cools off at night. Sweater and light coat with pants for sure. It is super casual here too, so jeans and a fleece would be perfect. Since you are coming from northern MN you might find the temp to be warm, but for me...it feels like winter (not a midwest winter, I'm from Chicago originally)!
Have fun!
I'm originally from mid-Michigan and I also think it feels cold out a lot. Earlier in the morning and then when the sun starts to set it gets chilly. Def bring sweater/over-jacket or something of the sort...

I would bring your rain gear. It is raining right now and is suppose to rain over next weekend.
The zoo/balboa park are a taxi or bus ride away. Not too far from downtown. It is possible your hotel will have a shuttle.
Oh yum! King Crab Sandwich!
