  I like Ari by itself - its cute and different but not whackadoodle.

  Otherwise I like Ariel, Arielle, Arin, Aria...

She fell in love with Theseus and helped him to escape the Labyrinth and the Minotaur, but was later abandoned by him. Eventually she married the god Dionysus.

  Arielle is the only one I can think of. I like it by itself. I have known two Aris (one male, one female) and that was their full name. I love Ari as it is. I tried to sell DH on it last week and he gave it a shrug and an "ok". :P I really like it and do think it is too "nicknamey" by itself.

  Arianne. I wouldn't use just Ari. It definitely seems like a NN to me.
