Motherhood Maternity's return policy :(

So, I learned today that Motherhood Maternity has a really bad return policy. I got a shirt as a gift from there, and I was never going to wear it, so I figured I would exchange it for something else. Of course I don't have the reciept. They wouldn't even let me exchange for another item! It makes me really glad that I haven't really bought much from there. Anyone else had problems with their return policy, or is it just me?

Re: Motherhood Maternity's return policy :(

  • I've heard this about motherhood... Check macy's! The macy's in our mall has a motherhood dept and you can return stuff just as you would to macy's!! It's the SAME clothes for the same price or maybe even cheaper!

  • They make you inital the reciept saying you know this when you buy something. However, if it was a gift I can see why it would be frustrating.

I have only had luck exchanging a coat that got a big hole in it after like 7 days...

  • I had a gift and no gift receipt and was told over the phone that I could exchange the shirt no problem.  When I went in, the woman in the store said that I needed the information of the person who bought it for me to do the exchange.  It wasn't coming up in the system, but she tried to do the return and it worked, so I was able to exchange it.  I guess it just depends on the person who is helping you and what they are able to do.
  • Their return policy sucks.

I do have to say that right before Christmas, they did give my 10 year old a break.  Daddy took her shopping for a present for me and she picked out a t-shirt from Motherhood.  She thought I already had the color but daddy kept telling her that I didn't so she bought it (with her own money!).  When they got home, she saw that I did have the shirt and she was devastated.  Daddy took her back to the store a few days later to exchange it.  Although they said they couldn't do it, they decided to let her exchange it for another shirt that I didn't already have.  I think they felt bad for her.

  • That is how they operate. Low quality clothes, crappy return policy. The only things I got there this pregnancy are secret fit belly pants. I agree with you - they pretty much suck.

eta: the clerks are not likely to bend over backwards to help you with returns either. They work on commission, so if you return for store credit  the clerk who takes in the return loses money.

I agree. I got the secret fit belly pants and the fabric part that goes over my stomach started to unravel after the first wash, so needless to say, I'm not very happy I spent $40 on them.

  • Well, at least I know their customer service is universally bad. I worked in retail for many, many years and we would always at least try to find a way to do the exchange/return. At least there is a maternity consignment shop nearby, so maybe I'll just sell the shirt later on. Who knows, maybe since I am now stuck with it, I'll learn to like it.

  • One the other hand if their return policy was different people would wear the things for a few weeks and then return them after their pregnant self grew out of it...
  • no yah they suck.i had a tank with the tags on it..i needed a bigger size and they refuse to exchange it..i was angry..when i got it the lady was rushing me because she had a line soo i grabbed it and assumed it would fit..little did i know it was way too small..they are also very pushy..and try to have you buy things that dont fit you..i refuse to buy anything else from there.

I spent $140 on Lucky Maternity Jeans - about a month after I bought them the material ripped from the secret belly panel (where it attached to the actual jean)... I was so pissed - that was PEA IN THE POD.

But it just seems like, I've spent hundreds on clothes from Pea in the Pod, Motherhood, and Target... and the only thing that has held up is the jeans from Target - go figure.

The jeans I got from Motherhood started falling apart right away, but my Target jeans, which I've had longer and have worn more, are in perfect shape!

I did like a few of the shirts I got at Motherhood...I got them from the clearance rack and knew they fit and knew I couldn't return them.  But, overall, I don't care for that store much at all...I've had much better luck with Target and Old Navy.
