Boucing on an exercise ball?

ok, so I don't remember hearing about this when I was pregnant with DS, but now I've seen a couple of people trying it?  Enlighten me!  Smile  Do you just really sit on the ball and bounce up and down?  What exactly is that supposed to do?  Sorry, but this is a new one for me. TIA!!!

Re: Boucing on an exercise ball?

  • From what I gather from other people, yes you sit on it and bounce haha I guess it helps push LO down more or something like that! I use it to help with my pelvic and hip pain. My midwife suggested it since LO is really low right now to help deal with the pain.

  • not sure who's bouncing on them, but I do sit on mine.  it really helps my hips and my back.

  • The ball also can be used in labor.  If you swivel your hips on it while keeping your feet flat on the floor it can also help stretch your perineum so you don't tear. It is also a great place to sit while your labor partner massages you during labor.  I took extensive natural childbirth classes with a doula and we used the ball for many different poses to deal with pain and help with relaxation.

Bouncing is the fun part! Especially for those of us who aren't getting any bedroom action...  Stick out tongue

Seriously, though: AWESOME for hip and sciatic nerve pain!

  • sitting on a ball, and especially rolling from side to side while sitting on it, helps to open up your pelvis so LO can drop further and get in the right position.  Plus, like all the PP said, it is really good for back/hip pain
  • sciatic nerve pain?!? I am having that so bad - thanks for mentioning that!!! I gotta find my ball!
  • It took pressure off my back when I was pregnant with DS1 and supposedly, it helps baby move down in your pelvis.  Go figure the later-my DS1 was a -3 station (way up there) and I lived on that exercise ball the last 2 months of my pregnancy.

  • I LOVED mine while pregnant with my DS.  It was the only thing I could sit on for the last month..
