Babies: 3 - 6 Months

does the pain from teething come before or after the tooth breaks through the gum?

i just looked in my DS mouth and he has his first tooth - the top is already through the gums!  I had no idea!  he hasn't been fussy at all - do they usually fuss when the tooth breaks through the gums or is it at some other time?  i thought it was before it broke through - so maybe i lucked out?

  • Usually it's before the tooth breaks through. And it can last up to 4 months before it breaks through.

  • DS only has two teeth - so we're no experts - but he seems to have the most trouble when they are breaking through....

here's hoping the rest of your LO's come in just as easy!

  • eddie has been sleepless and cranky for three nights now. the tooth has broken through the skin, but he's still in pain.

  • Oooh! Lucky you! DS has a tooth we can see just under his gums. He was super fussy for a day and the next morning I noticed a little white spot under his gums. It's been a few weeks though and he hasn't fussed any more but the tooth hasn't come up any further either.
