Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Canines = worst teething ever?

Lyla's been sick with a cold for over a week, and just as she seemed to hit the end of it, her canines started coming in. She's beyond miserable... crying bouts all day long, chewing/drooling on everything, nursing nonstop, sleeping even less than usual. I feel terrible for her... I can't imagine what it must feel like, to be affecting her this much.

Did anyone else's LO have a really tough time with their canines? I've read that they can be the most painful, for whatever reason. How long did it last before finally breaking through? Just hoping for an end in sight... or at least some commiseration. Tongue Tied

Re: Canines = worst teething ever?

  • I think each kid is different. For Will, molars were way worse than canines.
    I like privacy. A lot.

  • Liam had a really tough time with his canines.  We had a similar situation with him; he got over a cold just in time to be hit with the teething.  It was a tough couple of weeks and rougher than most of the other teeth.

    GL to you.  It does get better, I promise.

  • i just now noticed Everett's caninces. his teeth are sneaking up on me!!!! but he is/was drooling alot!!! he went thru a biting stage for a bit which i guess was cause of those!!!! but he is battling the cold now i cant get the snot out of his NOSE!!!!!!
  • We were just in the same boat. Jack's canines finally all just broke through. We literally went through almost 4 months of waking in the nights, crying during the day, so much drooling (still happening)! We got all hhis first round of molars and they are really through, and now the 4 canines are popped through. Not all the way in , but he is already acting so much better. The last week he has slept through the night all 7 nights! Our pedi said for some these were the worst ones, and they were for us! Good luck! It will get better!
  • Yes!  DD's top ones just came in.  It was constant fussiness for about 2 weeks.  Now I'm just waiting for the bottoms to wreak havoc. Crying

    WOW Canines already?  I thought DS got a canine but it turned out to be his molar.  He has 2 coming through and he isn't a happy camper.

    We just got through the first 4 molars last month, so I was hoping we'd have a longer break before the canines started in. But I can feel/see both the top and bottom ones coming through on her right side. Which means we still have the left side after this. Sigh.

  • I've heard that as well, but DD just popped one of her top ones (the other is on the way) and has had little difficulty, no diaper rash, no fever, no drooling, nothing other than being a little more tired than usual. She definitely had a harder time with her molars. I do give her some orajel, which she seems to really like.

  • OMG. We are going through this right now. DS's two upper canines cut through this week, on top of tons of congestion and an ear infection. He has been a mess...and acting like a terror. I really hope the bottom canines come through soon. I want my sweet boy back!
  • It's been months of canine hell for us. I've been able to see them bulging under ds's gums for about 4 months. We're finally making some progress on his lower ones, but his sleep is waaaay worse than it's ever been. I'm praying they cut through soon.
