Hi ladies; I'm a 1st trimester preggo, but we are starting to think about how we might need to make changes around the house to prepare for the bebe. Our bedroom is on our first floor and there are no other bedrooms on that floor, the rest are upstairs. I wanted to put the baby room upstairs, but I am wondering if I will hate my life if all the baby stuff is upstairs when our bedroom is downstairs. I have thought of maybe doing a bed-side-sleeper for the first few months, or until baby sleeps through the night. But, I just don't know. Do any of you have your nursery on a different floor than your bedroom? How does it work? I appreciate the advice from the new mamas!
Re: Nursery on different floor than parents?
CDH, born 10/26/09.... now I see a family, where there once was none.
Same situation here. LO hasn't even really seen his room yet.
We moved our pack n play (with changing table attachment), bouncy seat, swing and play mat into the living room right outside of our bedroom. So our living room is not the prettiest, but it works best for us right now. DS is not sleeping thru the night yet, so DH and I take shifts out in the living room with him. That way we still have our bedroom for un-interrupted sleep for whoever is not on their shift.
Our nursery is upstairs while our bedroom is downstairs. DS has slept in his crib in his room since day 1, and we've never had a problem. We just leave all the doors open so we can hear him when he wakes up. And we have these 12x12 collapsible totes that we put diapers, wipes, receiving blankets, etc in. We just keep those in our front room since we spend the majority of our time in there during the day. Keeps us from having to run up and down the stairs a million times.
Our situation: nursery on main floor, master bedroom is the whole upper level of the house.
What we do: We have a PnP with bassinet/changer in our room and also have a set of 3 drawers (the rubbermaid kind) that we keep up there next to it so we have a supply of diapers, blankets, clothes/pjs, etc. We also keep the night & day bottle warmer up there and bring 2 cold bottles up at night to warm up as needed. The only time we have to leave our room at night is for our own potty breaks. During the day, he sleeps in his crib (it is really important to me for him to get accustomed to sleeping in his own bed even if for now he is in the bassinet --and sometimes snuggled in bed with me).
You'll figure out what works for you, even if you don't do so until after LO comes... sort of like on-the-job training.
We used(with DS #1) and are using a PnP in our room until DS#2 sleeps through the night relatively consistently. At that point, we will move him into his nursery.
