It's very contagious, but unless he was born early or has heart or lung problems, it won't likely present itself as anything more than a cold. Adults and children contract RSV several times throughout their lives; it sounds scarier than it is!
It is highly contagious, but when DD had it a couple of months ago, it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. She stays at an in home daycare with 3 other children. When one got it, they all got it, even though our provider was very careful with handling it.
RSV affects every child differently. DD had the swab done so we know for sure that it was RSV, but it looked like a cold in her. Another child at daycare who was 4 months at the time was sicker.
Ok so yes RSV is very contagious, but one of our twins (Nathan) had it last month and Joey did not get it. So it's very possible he won't get it. I mean Joey was exposed day in and day out to Nathan... they share everything. So I would try not to worry too much.

We've never dealt with it, but it is highly contagious.
