1st Trimester

I keep spotting on and off...anyone else?

I hate this... I got my BFP on Dec 22 and started spotting right away. This is my second pregnancy and I spotted/bled throughout up to 20 weeks with my son as well, so I tried not to get too concerned. The doctor sent me for an early u/s to see if I had miscarried and at 5 weeks, they saw a healthy sac, yolk sac and no bleeding inside of my uterus.

I was also diagnosed with a yeast infection the day before th u/s so they thought that could be causing the spotting. Right after I started the treatment for the yeast infection, I started spotting red. That freaked me out, so I quit the treatment. The spotting continued for a few days, but got better. Still no cramping, but I thought it was over for sure. I got my blood drawn and to my surprise, the levels were increasing perfectly. I was scheduled for a f/u u/s at just after 8 weeks, which will be tomorrow. Since then, I've had spotting on and off. My yeast infection started acting up again, so the doctor reassured that Monistat was safe in the first trimester. So I started taking it 2 days ago. Yesterday, my CM was red and then orange kind of, but only when I wiped (sorry if TMI). The same thing is happening today. My u/s is tomorrow, so I'm trying not to freak out. I don't think there's any point in going to the doctor, as in Canada they don't have u/s equipment at our doctor's offices and tomorrow is not long off. I have no cramping and this is the same type of spotting I've had on and off the whole time, but each time is so un-nerving. I have no idea if everything is OK, though I'm trying to be positive and hope it is because I've had this the whole time and my numbers were still going up. I was told it was from my cervix before, so I'm hoping its this again.

What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone else spotted on and off so far through their pregnancy? If it were you, would you stop taking the medication? Do you think the yeast infection or Monistat is the likely culprit? Some ladies on here yesterday said that Monistat caused them to spot, so that's reassuring....Its just so frustrating and stressful. I can't wait until tomorrow. Thanks for listening!

  • Hi there,

Here's my long story. Although, I think since you've had a successful pregnancy with bleeding, it probably is just your cervix. I actually think something is wrong with me and whatever it is started when i went off the pill, cause spotting a few days before my period was the norm after I went off the pill in June/09. Do you have a similiar experience with the pill?

Hi everyone, I've been reading everyone's posts and sfter my mental breakdown today, I need some moral support. I had a m/c at 7 weeks in November and I'm close to 6 weeks pg again. I had spotting from day one with my first BFP. It was dark brown mostly, but red and pink at times too. It never stoppped and then we had a m/c. The day I got my BFP this time, the spotting started agian and I've been terrified ever since. It's been yellowish brown for 2 weeks and just stains a couple times in the mornings and then nothing else for the rest of the day. As much as I know what could most likely happen again, I kept telling myself that it's different this time. No red, light brown and very little. Until today that is, I have rusty brown and alot of it. I reached in (sorry for the TMI) to clean it out cause I couldn't take seeing it anymore. It's tapered off, probably cause I cleaned it out, but I have no doubt that it'll continue. I've lost all hope and keep thinking why is this happening to us again. I'm only 26 and have no health issues. I never in a million years thought that it would be so hard for us. To make matters worse, everyone around us is either pregnant or just had their babies and I even have a baby shower tomorrow.

In week 4, I had my HCG checked every other day and an u/s that was too early to see anything. I have a 7 week u/s scheduled in a week and I'm not as anxious as I was in my last pregnancy to get there.

Last time, at 6 weeks, the baby was measuring small and the HB was low. I almost wish I never saw it, cause it made the loss so much worse.

I wish I could tell myself to relax, but since I know what has happened to me before, it's like deja vu all over again.

    UPDATE:

Hi Ladies, I'm feeling very down and depressed today and since I have no one besides DH to talk to, I need to vent.

It seems that everytime  I try to to tell myself that this time is not as bad as the last time, deja vu hits me again. I woke up this morning at 4 am to pee and while I was peeing I realized I hadn't woken up to pee once and my bladder actually hurt. I went to wipe and saw red blood. not mucousy, just watery. This exact thing happened last time. When I have to strain to BM or pee, it must let some fresh blood out. This is the first time I've seen red and not brown this whole pregnancy.....I couldn't fall back asleep of course and the whole time I was getting ready for work, I was crying and depression really hit me. It wasn't this bad last time, since I didn't know what to expect and I was so hopeful. Now, I know what's coming and I don't know how much longer I can handle the stress. I can't focus at work and just want to stay in bed all day and cry. This isn't fair, I'm not hopeful to try again after this, cause I'm so sure this will happen again and I feel like it's all my fault. My body is killing our babies. Sorry to rant, but I'm so down right now. My 7 week u/s isn't till monday and I know I'm either gonna see a lifeless sac or a low HB and late growth like last time.

Thanks for listening, it's just so hard to stay positive with all the bad signs.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. I like you, have always had spotting before I get my period, and also mid-cycle, whether on I'm on the pill or not. I will say that I had with my first pregnancy, exactly what you're experiencing now and though I was certain I m/c, everything was fine. This went on up to 20 weeks. Of course there is no way to know for sure, but please keep hope that these situations do have happy endings and just because you had this happen last time, doesn't mean it will end up the same way. That goes for me as well. I know that last time, everything was OK with the spotting, but that's no guarantee it will be this time. Of course its impossible to relax until your Monday appointment, but my son is living proof that spotting/bleeding doesn't always mean you're miscarrying. There are tons of women on here who have experienced the same thing as well, and everything has been OK. I'm sending you positive vibes and please PM me anytime. Let me know how everything went on Monday, if you feel like it. Good luck!
  • I have been spotting/very light bleeding since week 5 (Im am 9 weeks today). I've seen the heartbeat (at 8 weeks) and doc keeps telling me everything is fine. He says "some women are bleeders and some women arent".  I have always had pre, post and mid cycle spotting before I was pregnant.  Keep your head up. Everything I'm sure will be fine. Keep us posted re what happens on Monday! :)
  • Mrs. ErinJ - let us know what happens tomorrow please! hang in there!
  • Thanks ladies. You guys really helped me stop crying. I called my husband at work and told him I'd understand if he had to be with someone else to have kids. I know.. It's crazy, but the fears and hormones are really making me depressed. You're both in my prayers. Keep me posted and I'll keep you posted too.

  • I have had spotting/bleeding since week five.  It is stressing me out, but I have had multiple ultrasounds and each time the baby looks fine.  My doctor said some people just have bleeding in their first tri.

It could be the medication or the yeast infection.  At a minimum, I would think that having an infection would make you more sensitive and, thus, more suceptible to bleeding.

    Hope everything goes well tomorrow.

  • I don't know if you're still watching this thread, but to answer your question I too spotted from week 5 until week 20 during my last pregnancy. Sometimes the spotting would be brown or pinkish and scant and at other times it would be red and enough to get on a pantiliner but never enough to fill a pad. They could never find an explanation for my bleeding so they just blamed it on a small tear somewhere in the placenta, though a u/s never showed proof of this tear.

Yesterday, I started spotting with this pregnancy. It's pretty much the same situation as last time. I started not to call the Dr. because it's not really much blood and I've been through this before. However, today I thought better of that situation and called. The Dr. called in a prescription for prometrium, which is the same medication that I took last time, and I'm scheduled for an appt. next Friday. I'm praying and believing that everything is okay with this pregnancy, and that I'm just a "bleeder".

GL and you're in the T&P.

Yep, that is exactly how I was with DS. Doctor just blamed it on a sensitive cervix, so I'm hoping this is the same. Good luck to you too!

  • Mrs.erinJ - im assuming everything went well yesterday?
