Babies: 3 - 6 Months

cat owners come in

lately, every feeding with DS, my cat goes berserk. he's usually a mellow giant (the cat, i mean, not the baby) - but these days, especially during those precious nighttime feeds, when you really don't want LO to wake up, my cat goes nuts and scratches at everything, leaps at the windows, jumps on me and mewls. when we're not feeding DS, the kittensley is chill.

first (fur) child syndrome? he doesn't make a move against DS - in fact, he watches over him and purrs. but jeez, what gives during feedings, cat?!?

  • is he a Maine C00n or long haired cat? My MC boy is the same way!

I say start using the spray water bottle. Mine works great, plus its quiet so you can do it while trying to get the babe to sleep.

  •   Our cat, Stella, is really needy lately, and it's usually when I am the least able to pet her.  Her favorite times to demand my attention are when I'm nursing the baby, changing the baby, or when the baby is crying.  Also, I'm pretty sure someone has slipped her some LSD, because she goes bsc attacking the walls at night when we're all trying to sleep.  I love her, and she's never done anything to make me worry about the baby's safety, but come on!
  • Our fur kiddos sleep in the basement, b/c they like to wake us up at all hours of hte night, so I don't have that problem, but they like to jump on the couch and sniff the baby when I am nursing...when we first came home from the hosptial, they wouldn't come near him and were very very needy...the vet said that they are jealous of all the attention he was getting and that they would come around in time.  What if you try to set aside some "kitty time" after the baby goes to bed and play or just hold him in your lap?  Maybe that's what he's craving???  It seemed to help our babies! :)
  • Mine is obsessed with DS and the nursery. At night when Im in there feeding him she paces all around the chair meowing like crazy like she wants me to leave him alone. If he cries and Im on my way to the nursery door she races past me and sits at the door waiting to go in and see him. This cat HATES everyone and everything....I just dont get cats at all. Yours sounds like he just wants your attention and doesnt like to have to share it with your LO.
