Is your LO on fluoride?

At DS's 6 month appt yesterday they put him on fluoride drops and said he has to have them every day until all of his permanent teeth are in. I had never heard this before. Is it pretty common? Supposedly it's not added to our water.

  • Neither of my LO's took them....

  • I think that's fairly standard if your water isnt fluoridated (which I find bizarre). But, our tap water has fluoride, so we dont need fluoride drops.
  • #2 also got her prescription at her 6 month check up, I haven't fill it yet.  #1 has been on it since her 6 month, but I am honestly not consistant about giving it.  We have well water.... On a side note, a local grocery store that has a pharmacy gives free vitamins until the kids are 7 .

  • Our pedi put DS on fluoride drops too. Its because our town doesnt put it in the water.

  • We have well water so DS gets fluoride drops daily.

  • DD had 6 mo apt. this morning. The pedi wrote her a perscription for the Polyvisol drops she is currently taking over the counter but with fluoride in them. I'm just glad this mixture is an option so we can give her one drop instead of 2. He said unless I think I can get her to drink 2-6 oz of tap water a day - that we should do the drops. As she drinks no water yet, I figured we should do the drops.

If you're FF, then just mix the formula with tap water.  If you're BF but your tap water does have fluoride, then it will only be a few months until your LO *is* drinking water so it's really probably not necessary. JMO.
