Parenting after a Loss

Yet another reason why going back to work is going to stink

I took DS into work this morning because I knew my one co-worker whom I work most closely with would give me a hard time if I went back to work next Friday and she hadn't seen him before then.  Anyway, she asked me if DS was still sleeping in our room and I said that yes, he was sleeping in the swing in our room because he gets 6-7 hours that way.  She asked when we'd be moving him to his crib and I told her I wasn't sure because he wakes up anytime we try to lay him flat.

She couldn't believe it and told me that DS was playing me and that I need to let him CIO!  I wanted to be like, Seriously?  You think my THREE MONTH OLD is playing me?  He can't even figure out how to use his hands, yet he is manipulating me into letting him sleep in the swing?  Right.  It's going to be tons of fun going back to work and having her tell me things like this constantly!  Ok sorry, vent over!

  • I normally just smile and nod at those people and then go and do what I find works best for our family.

  • Wow, that was super annoying of her!  I would have told her to mind her own business.  Ugh, some people are unbelievable!
  • No I would just tell her that I am just not into that.  If she gets especially annoying then I would bring out the big guns.

I like to tell people that I am a bit "crunchy/hippy" when it comes to parenting and they usually leave me alone.

  • Oy, people really are annoying! My guy didn't like being flat on his back at first either and slept in the swing. I live in fear of having a child who will not sleep in the crib because of the problems my sister is having with her DD who is 9 months old and has slept in with them until now. What worked for us was to "wean" DS into being on his back. I slept downstairs with him for about 2 weeks putting him in the PNP. He didn't like that at first either, but because it had a vibrate setting, he quickly decided it was okay and would sleep pretty well in there. Then I just tried him in the crib one night and he's been in it ever since - that was 2 weeks ago. I know not everything works for all babies, but it's worth a try if you're looking for a way to get him used to that. It sure worked well for us. GL and don't listen to that dolt!! Wink
