Multiples

multiples on clomid?

I'm from the ttcal board, but I went to the fertility dr today and was told I have 3 follicles ready to pop.  He said I have less then a 1% chance on triplets, but the chance is there.

here is my post on TTCAL:

I guess I'm just looking to hear some success stories, because I'm pretty nervous about this.

Re: multiples on clomid?

  • Whether or not to move forward under these circumstances is such a personal decision. All I can say is that we had two mature follicles (well, one mature and one almost-mature) and ended up with two babies. So I wouldn't necessarily count on not all of them fertilizing. Maybe it's different with three, though (I never had 3 follies during any of my cycles).

  • FWIW - Infertility or SAIF boards are better for your question.  Everyone here has multiples.  So if they used clomid or injectibles the answer is 100%.  :)
  • I know everyone here has multiples but thats the reason I posted my question here.  I wanted to know how many got their multiples by taking clomid, and I wanted to hear some positive stories.  Someone to say oh yeah I've taken it and now I'm pregnant with multiples and everything is going great.  My little mind is focused on negative and I need to hear some positive.

  • I took Clomid and the day before my IUI, I only had one mature and one almost mature follicle.  Clearly the other follicle matured because we ended up with fraternal twins.

  • I was on my 3rd round of Clomid when I got pregnant.  I was doing 50 mg.  We did not do an IUI, just did the deed when I was ovulating.  I had two follicles ready to go when I got my u/s.  I ended up with triplets!  We sadly lost one at 9 weeks, but it can happen.  Good luck to you!

  • Hi - I recognize you from TTCAL. Good luck to you!

We did and IUI with 50 mg Clomid and an hcg trigger. After 2 years of trying and 4 losses we just told the RE to pull out all the stops and we'd deal with what happened. I had two follies that counted as mature though one was much larger than the other. We are expecting fraternal twins. It's a personal decision - I'm not sure what we would have done had there been 3 follies (even though there was a chance that both of my two could fertilize and one could split).

  • I took clomid and injectables while ttc. I too had 3 follicles ready to go, my RE triggered me, and we did a TI cycle. Guess what....I got triplets! My RE was totally taken by surprise. I had the 3 follies and they all released and they all got fertilized. He told me all of the risks involved with a triplet pregnancy and even recommended reducing, but after seeing the heartbeats there was no way I could reduce. But here we are today with 3 beautiful healthy babies, and I wouldn't change it for anything! I'm not going to lie and tell you it was a breeze, I had a rough pregnancy and was worried sick through the whole thing...but it was definitely a happy ending. If you have any other questions for me, just page me. Good luck! :)

  • We were on our second round of Clomid at 50mg.  I went for my ultra sound and was told I had no mature follicles.  Some way some how we ended up with twins that cycle!  Good luck to you!!

  • I don't have any idea how many mature follies I had (unmonitored cycle) but got twins with my 1st round of 50mg Clomid.  I was not happy at first, now I couldn't imagine life without any of my boys, they're my world.
  • thanks ladies :) i love seeing all these positive stories!

  • depends on what size the follies are... how many unsuccessful tries you have had before, etc.

we got pg on our first cycle of clomid/IUI with Griffin -- one follie.... so we knew going into TTC#2 that we had a good chance that any follies present would become babies- so i would not have done an IUI if there were 3 or more- i was not willing to take that risk... but was OK with 2... and we did have 2 follies- and we did get 2 babies (on our 2nd try... our first cycle that time was a bust b/c I was sick and didn't get any true mature follies)

i'm sure others have said it- but if you ask on SAIF you'll see many women had that many follies and only got one baby... here on this board it's another story - b/c it's a multiples board :)
    good luck!

  • I don't have anything productive to add to this post... I just wanted to say that it's awesome to see you getting some positive signs Gina.  Hope that whether it's here or on PgAL you're KTFU very soon.  ((hugs))

BFP #2 - 12/9/09 After being on bedrest for 10 weeks due to TTTS and hospital bedrest for 4 weeks due to PPROM, my sticky babies are here! Born at 32 weeks!!
  • I was still going through the testing phase to find out what would work for us. I took clomid for 5 days don't know how much and we ended up with triplets. My 3 are happy healthy babies and I couldn't be happier! I carried them to 35 weeks 2 days and they are now 7 weeks old. Good luck with whatever you decide!
