WWYD re: pole dancing bachelorette?

gah-- i'm a bridesmaid for my soon-to-be sister in law(marrying my bro) and her friends want to do a pole dancing lesson for the bachelorette.  i would rather die than do this.  would you suck it up and go along with it, or tell them that you're not comfortable with the idea?  I mean, I don't want to be a party pooper, but I don't think i would have wanted to do this when I was the bachelorette, let alone now that i'm married with a baby.

  • If that's what the bride wants to do than you can either don't go for that portion of the party, suck it up, or sit it out and offer to be the photographer.

  • My brother-in-law's fiancee's bridesmaids organized the same thing for her bachelorette party.  I opted out of this part and met for dinner and the bar after.  DH's sister and cousins did the same so it worked out great for me.  I think that what PP said is a good idea.  You could be the photographer.  Seeing as how you are a bridesmaid, it probably is a good idea to participate in one way or another.

Yep, I agree with this.  Offer to take pictures if you feel too uncomfortable to participate.

  • DO IT! Its such a fun class. I have taken pole dancing for exercise and there is a reason pole dancers are thin! Its so fun, usually has great music going. You will have so much fun! And it will probably be a closed class, for the party.
  • Personally that sounds like a ton of fun but like the PP I would volunteer to do the photos and opt out.

  • I did it for my party, it was a blast.  I really got more out of it than I thought.  Learning this stuff made me feel sexy.  You don't even need to dance for your husband.  But know if you do, he will be forever greatful. My friends and I and our husbands have talked about it on some occasions and all the men would like us to it it more often.

Go with a positive attitude, you may be plesenlty surprised and remember...even though you are are a mom you are a women first and you should be able to feel sexy still.

I agree!  It sounds like fun!

  • IT'S SO MUCH FUN. We did it for a 30th birthday and had a blast. Everyone came to my place and we had dinner and some/a lot of drinks and then went pole dancing. The one that I went to it was just our party and nobody could see inside. Let me say it again ~~ SO MUCH FUN ~~ You should do it but just keep an open mind or you will hate it before you start the class.

  • I would love to know your decision and if you do it did you like it.
  • I am planning a friends Vegas bachelorette party and thought of doing this one afternoon. All the girls loved the idea! What is wrong with it? It is all women in the class. It doesn't have to be trashy.

Seems like a fun idea to me! I would be super offended if one of my bridesmaid refused to participate!

  • i guess i am the type of person who be insulted if a bridesmaid didn't go to my bachelorette party.  i think it's just supposed to be silly and fun - but i agree that you should take pics if you really don't want to do it.

If everyone wants to do it, I don't have a problem with someone having this kind of party.  But personally, i have no desire to imitate a stripper.  Just because I am someone's bridesmaid, I don't want to put myself in a position where I feel very uncomfortable.  I hope the bride isn't offended, but I'm not going to participate.  If we were going to a strip club, I wouldn't go to that either.

  • OMG! I would of loved to!!   But I couldnt find a class in my area.. My sister bachloerrte party was last friday and that was what she wanted but we couldnt do it :(
  • When I was 8 months preggo one of my best friends had one of these bachelorette parties. It looked like so much fun, but I couldn't do it because of my enormous bump. I was the designated photographer and got some hilarious shots. I say go, cheer the ladies on and take some good shots for her to remember it by! (or to blackmail her with later on if need be!)
