For the past two nights Olivia has woken up screaming hysterically. She is unable to be calmed down for a good 10 minutes. We try everything possible.
Both nights she calmed when we took her to our bedroom to sleep with us. Last night, she woke again (while in our bed) screaming.
She is inconsolable and cannot communicate to us at all.
We thought teething (pointy teeth on the bottom), but no fever, she's eating fine. Poop is runny. Motrin before bed last night did not seem to help. She is grinding her teeth at night. She is fine during the day, except she wants to be held a lot.
Once she calms down she says nothing hurts (ears, mouth, teeth, tummy). I asked her if she was scared of her room, and she said yes, but then why would she scream in our room?
completely at a loss. This is frustrating to see her so upset and we can't figure this out.
Re: What the HECK is wrong with her???
Sounds like night terrors. Not uncommon and basically she's totally asleep while screaming even though she can appear awake.

DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
Are they happening around the same time each night?
We went through a period of night terrors when DD was around 1. They happened around the same time every night, an hour after she went to bed. The pedi had us recondition her sleep pattern by waking her up 45 minutes after she went to sleep and then putting her back to sleep again. We had to do this for a week. After that, she didn't have them again.
I'm sorry your going through this. My DD is the exact same age as your's (born 12/04) and she has been doing this since the holidays. She wakes up screaming and comes running to us. We just throw her in bed with us too but I notice she laughs, talks and gets scared in her dreams while she's sleeping with us too. I'm hoping it's a phase....
My first thought was nightmares too. DS gets them and it sucks.
My second guess would be teeth or ears. My DS is sometimes a little too disoriented in the middle of the night to really tell me what's wrong. Especially is he's been hysterically crying. Even after he's calmed down.
