triplet moms - stretch marks?

Ok triplet moms, give me the honest truth about your bellies. I don't have any stretch marks yet - just the linea nigra. my mom never got any stretch marks, so I'm hoping genetics are on my side, but I imagine with 3 I'm bound to get some.

--when did your stretch marks appear?

--did any of your extra flab/skin ever go away?

--any strategies for helping your belly compress after delivery?

--any strategies for minimizing stretch marks? did they ever go away or at least fade?

I know I may never wear a bikini again, but I'm hoping I can at least fit into some of my old clothes eventually.

Re: triplet moms - stretch marks?

  • i'm not ignoring this question, i'm just choosing not to answer it so as not to depress you. :P

(but i've always been overweight, so i was never going to look good after having triplets anyway.)

  • I am not having trips, but wanted to chime in with a couple things.  My mom never got stretch marks with my twin brothers and she measured 5' around and gained over 100 pounds.  Surprise

I have (knock on wood) escaped stretch marks on my belly.  I had a few develop on my left hip several months ago, but that's it.  And at last check a few weeks ago, my belly was measuring around 48 weeks.

I hope the genetic thing holds true for you, too!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • No trips here but if genetics are on your side that's good - they were not on mine and with my DD I escaped SM free until 37 weeks then I looked like I had been attacked by a wild animal. At only 14 weeks now I am seeing new ones pop up.
  • I'm not going to lie...but it ain't pretty. But then again, everyone is different, right? I started to develop stretch marks around 28 weeks. I got them mostly on my lower abdomen, and on my hips. But now, the worst part is the center of my belly...it kinda looks like orange peel, and is still flubby.....but I hope time will take care of that. But if you've got good genes then you might be ok, my mom got terrible stretch marks, so maybe I'm just prone to them. :)
  • I'm only carrying two... but I got the short end of the genetic stick. I saw the first of them appear about 2 weeks ago... and now they just seem to keep inviting friends to the party. (If there were a sad party emoticon it would fit perfectly here.) They're keeping themselves to the lower part of my stomach so I can't see them without a mirror. DH loves looking at them and says it looks like I've been scratched by a cat. I hope they fade...

  • Stretch marks.. NEVER got any..

Flab skin.. Some yes, I am back in the gym to try and get rid of the rest, I know that with hard work it can be done, I did lose all my weight by the time they came home from the hospital. but when they started eating and I started eting their left overs I gained some back

  • I only have two, but  I didn't get stretch marks until ~28 weeks.  I had one teeny 1" long one high on my stomach and then all of a sudden my lower belly had a ton.  I can't see them unless I look in the mirror.

My husband refuses to call them stretch marks.  He calls them "baby love marks."  lol

  • Hi! Only a twin mom here, but I escaped stretch marks till 35 weeks then, pop. pop, pop!! Hate them, but I have to be grateful for what I have two beautiful babies and  I was extremely lucky b/c all the weight I gained I had lost within 10 days, do not know how, since I EFF. Anyway, I asked my OB about creams and she did not have any suggestions BUT...my dermatologist gave me Retin-A cream which I am currently using, I've only been using it 2 weeks but have hope that it'll do the trick.

  • Okay, if I walked away from my triplet pregnancy with just stretch marks, I would have been as happy as can be.

Everyone is different.  I am 5'4" and weighed 100 lbs pre-babies.  Size 0.  I carried triplets (combined birth weight was 3 ounces shy of 15 lbs) to 35 weeks and 6 days.  My MFM waited for my 6 week post-triplet check-up to tell me that I will need surgery to fix the damage.  And oh, there is a lot of damage.  I don't even have a belly button anymore.  Side note - my weight now is approx. 107 lbs.
