Guilty purchase confession...

What you have you purchased without consulting with dh?  I'm talking big purchases that would require you and dh to discuss it first.....For me, I haven't done this, but I really want to buy a new digital camera.  Last summer, I broke the one that I loved, and then we bought a new one in St. Maarten (where it broke).  I don't like this one as much, because the pictures come out clear, but dh says he can't tell the difference at all.  It drives me nuts, because I can.  The quality of the pictures from the last camera is WAYYYY better.  I get paid tomorrow and am expecting a fat commission check, so it won't even make a dent in finances at all.  What have you bought without consulting dh?

Re: Guilty purchase confession...

  • we don't really have consultation rules in our house b/c we both have our own money.  i guess buying a house or car would be extreme though....

i want a new snowboard even though my current sb is only a few years old.  i don't like the binding and the board is scrapped up from my mad skillz.

Yeah same here basically.  I mean, I never have to ask for permission to buy things like clothes or home decorations, things like that.  We're not big spenders either, but for some reason, I feel that something like a digital camera should be discussed.  Maybe not.  You're right though.  We both work and make decent money and contribute, so why not just buy it lol?
  • I bought a really cute mothers necklace back before christmas. Its engraved dog tags with a heart cut out. I love the mothers necklace I already had, but I couldn't really wear it to school (too flashy). I wanted something I could use every day. I didn't tell H until Sunday, fibbing a little saying that mom bought it for me for my graduation.
  • i know what you mean, though.  i sort of do feel like i should mention that i'm buying a $500 toy, you know?  i also feel slightly guilty about this purchase b/c we only go skiing/snowboarding like 3x a year, so really there's not need for my purchase.  ::hangs head in shame::  lol.

  • I really have never bought a big item without talking with husband.  Clothing, stuff for home, etc. I obviously don't talk to him about first.  But a good camera is pretty pricey so I would talk with him first.

By the way, I'm in the same boat as you.  We have a camera it takes clear pics, etc.  But I would love to get a new, better quality camera.  Husband just doesn't see the point since our current one works.  Men!!!!

  • Before we had children and I worked we really never discussed our purchases.

He knew what I made, but I also got commision checks monthly.  I never told him how much they were or when I got them.  Mostly because they just went into the account automatically.

He would say - Listen I have been really looking at this big screen TV - what do you think.  My response was always if we have the money - buy it.

Right now I think the only thing I buy without consulting him is clothes for the kids.

Sometimes if I am out and see something really cute for DD, I will buy it even though i know she has clothes and just sneak it in her clothes.  If he happens to ask about - I say oh we have had that for a while. (bad I know)

I buy whatever I like for all 3 kids as I feel like I dress them every day.  He will complain about this and that and I just ignore him or look at him.

  • Not really something we discuss, we each make our own money. As long as the bills and savings are paid, who cares.
