Recommend Your Convert. Car Seat

Sooooo many options..can't choose. Help! I like the Safety First Alpha Omega Elite a lot. I played with it in the store and it was very cool, but I am not sure you can recline it when it is rear-facing.. I like the Britax Marathon and Roundabout because they do recline when rear-facing, but I don't like that  you have to pull the straps through every time you have to adjust for the height...annoying, plus, they do not turn into booster seats when lo gets bigger. I want it all dang it!

Re: Recommend Your Convert. Car Seat

  • I have an Evenflo Symphony (from 5-100lbs) ... super duper plush and has the LATCH belt system.  The head rest glides up when i'll need it as a booster.  It also reclines and has the the slide straps.  We've only been using it for a few days, but so far N loves it and is super comfortable in it, and i'm sure that won't change.  I think I read it was rated something like a 3 (great but more affordable) on the baby book.  Have fun shopping!  :o)

EDIT:  Like KD288 mentioned below, the book I was TRYING to mention above was the BabyBargains book ... DUR!

  • I have the Marathon and *think* I like it but the lil seat belt holder thingy (red button you push to release the belt) kind of squeezes J's lil package too much. I realize this wouldn't be a problem for O. :)

I'm sorry Jen this isn't funny, esp. for poor Jace, but this made me giggle.

*ETA*  I don't have any personal recommendations except my friend recommended Britax - I think the Marathon. I am looking forward to hearing everyone's responses.

  • We have the Evenflo Symphoney which goes to 100 lbs. I chose this one not only for the fact it can be used up until H doesn't need a seat but also because it has great reviews and was recommended by Baby Bargins (I think it was reco'sd by BB but I may be confused it was awhile ago) :-)

Now we haven't used it just yet because H has been in the infant seat but I am starting to think it may be time to make a switch seeing as though H is a big boy.

  • I have a couple coupons for BRU if you want them.
  • I'm glad you asked!

I don't have one yet, even though Aaron is a big boy, since I hope to use the infant seat as long as he'll fit in it?even if I just leave it in the car and don't use it to transport him.

I've been leaning towards a Britax and need to do some research.

  • I have the marathon and like it.  It is a pain to rethread the straps but you don't have to do it that often and the seat is a snap to install and uninstall once you get the hang of it.  Plus it lasts up to 65 lbs -- DD is 2.5 and not even 30lbs yet!

  • We needed a second car seat for our other car and based on research I did on Consumer Reports, we bought the Graco Comfort Sport - Marissa.  It'll work up to 40lbs.  It was super easy to install and the belts are simple to adjust (pull one flap to loosen, one belt to tighten).  It was $60-something at Target.  The seat feels pretty cushy too.

Pesky, That will last you forever.  Pumpkin is tall/normal size and she is only 67 lbs at 9 yrs old.

  • Ada had a growth spurt last week so the day we got back from FL we had to go get a new car seat. We picked the Britax Boulevard. I only installed it just this morning. Her first ride will be this afternoon so we'll see how she likes it.

  • I have the Britax Marathon and LOVE it! The straps velcro to the side when they aren't in it so its super easy to get them in and out. My DH has the Britax Roundabout and he really likes it too.
  • We actually have 3 different ones.  In my car, I have the Britax Roundabout that was a hand-me-down from my BFF when we suddenly had to get convertible seats when Keira hit 9 months.  It's okay, but if I was buying, I had planned to go with the Marathon, because it goes to a higher weight/height limit.

DH has the Recaro Como, and he loves it.  https://www.recarochildseats.com/store/recaro-child-seats/recaro-childseats-como-raspberry  We got it for about $100 off the list price on Diapers.com.  It has really, really high safety ratings, which is why he picked it, and Keira is comfortable enough in it to fall asleep, something she never does in the Roundabout in my car.

My mom has the Graco MyRide 65.  https://www.gracobaby.com/Catalog/Pages/ProductListingPage.aspx?catid=10:41%7C%7C1+10434:4294958943%7C%7C1#/1832  I really like that one too.  It's plushy and Keira can fall asleep in it too.

    Good luck!

  • We have no car, but we do have the marathon.  We've used it once, no complaints!
