I asked my MFM today how much weight I should gain. I was curious to know; I was fairly certain he is not of the Dr. Luke camp. My BMI is 25. He said 25 lbs total for the pregnacy!
Ha! He's very conservative with weight. By my calculation, that's basically all baby, placenta, amniotic fluid, maternal blood volume. I will be shocked if I am actually able to do it!
Re: Weight gain
I don't know if it's not possible, as much as it is not healthy. I just don't think that would be enough weight for twins. My OB and peri said between 45 and 50. Right now I'm at 40. My babies are both over 6 lbs right now so I'm happy I listened
Damn. Good luck with that. I was up almost 25 at 20 weeks.
I probably could have eaten better if I didn't have morning sickness for so long. Until week 18 or so, I was eating anything I could keep down which was lots of snack mix and Kraft Mac & Cheese. I wish veggies and hummus and stuff like that sounded good at first...
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
Yeah ... sorry, but that recommendation makes zero sense to me, and really concerns me a bit.
Has he done much research specifically into weight gain for multiple pregnancies? Sadly few OBs and even MFMs have.
My doc never gave me a recommendation, which honestly doesn't concern me. I know that he'll tell me if he's unhappy, and I know what feels healthy for my own body (helps that I started off a bit overweight, too).
I haven't even managed to gain 10lbs yet, FWIW.
My Dr. had never told me any specific weight gain, but when I asked he also told me 25 lbs- 30 lbs he advised me that just because I was having two I didn't need to reach a "weight goal" I'm sure other posters might disagree and that's fine. He also said the babies would take from me what was needed so I didn't focus on any particular weight gain I just ate when I was hungry and tried to make good food choices and gained 40 lbs.
I never really discussed weight gain with my MFM -- I went to Dr. Kirshon -- who are you seeing?
Anyway, he never weighed me, but I did gain 70 lbs, and neither he nor my OB gave a damn. I was slightly underweight to begin with (125lbs and 5'8"), and I lost it all w/in 6 months pretty easily.
I wouldn't worry about the weight thing too much, and would just focus on eating lots of protein.
After a PCOS dx, 18 months of trying, 3 rounds of clomid and 2 follistim IUIs our babies are here!
