Baby food, once again...

When did/do you plan to move from purees to more "solid" bites of food?  J gets "bites" of some things that we eat, and eats the puffs that dissolve, but he gets purees as his main meal.

Not that I think he should be chomping steak anytime soon, just curious :)

  • R was about 10 or 11 months old when we started more table food types of bites....he didn't really take to it, though, until about 13-14 months.

  • Another thing, he doesn't put anything in his mouth...I think he's the only child on the planet that doesn't. I hand him a puff, or put a few on his highchair tray, and he will pick them up and drop them off the side.

The only things that make it to his mouth are his fingers (yes, my child sucks his thumb, but only in his sleep), and his mesh feeder.

  • That's okay.. Robinson did that too.  It just means that they are not fully ready for table food yet.  Keep offering him things and when he's ready, he'll put it in his mouth.  Maybe eat a puff in front of him...

Also, when you are eating dinner, make sure he has some puffs or something on his tray so that he can mimic you by eating.  We've always put Robinson in his high chair with us during meal times so that he could get used to family meals and all of us eating together.  It's worked really well...and now he gets mad if he gets something different than Mommy and Daddy...lol

  • We started giving her bites of stuff around 8 months and she decided that pureed food was for the birds and started demanding chunkier things.

    She is a super eater.

She also didn't feed herself until she was 11-12 months old.  She was never a mouthy baby and didn't put things in her mouth.  Around a year - I started letting her get a little messier (before I would spoon it for her) and sort of ignoring her when she ate instead of focusing 100% on her- and it worked like a charm!   she started feeding herself in a week.

She eats whatever we have for dinner.

  • Kennedy is mostly feeding herself with table/finger foods now. She decided about two weeks ago that she had it with purees and wouldn't let us spoon feed her. I still try to give her some jarred foods but she often fusses or blows raspberries instead. But, she has also been putting things in her mouth for the last couple months and is very stubborn when it comes to us trying to feed her.

Now she eats tiny pieces of everything we eat, just about. She loves broccoli, carrots, yogurt, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes, etc.
