Okay ladies, apologies in advance for asking one of "those" questions. I went for a follow up ultrasound today (baby's kidneys are doing better!) but the specialist said Simon's measuring about 7lbs 11oz, in the 94th percentile. I asked her about the accuracy of the measurement and she said, "we're usually pretty close". Yikes. Anyway, she ordered another GTT for me, saying I may have just barely passed originally (I passed the one hour, didn't need the three hour). She said that I may have developed it later than 24 weeks, also. Anyway, if you had a growth u/s around 35 weeks, what were you measuring? And if you have GD, did you feel any different than normal? If you have GD AND had a growth u/s, what was your LO measuring? My concern is that mr. Simon still has five weeks of baking, if he continues to grow this way, what will happen? C-section? Early induction? Nothing?
And now to apologize for asking "those" questions, here is a photo! I took this just after I got off work (notice the jammie pants).

Re: Q about baby size at 35w, GD and PIP.
I don't have any advice. 36 week growth scan put LO at 6lb 2oz.
You are super purdy!
From everything I have read and heard the weight can be off by +/- up to 2 lbs.
You look cute!
Thanks ladies!
This and how freakin cute are you!!!!!
I have GD, and our last ultrasound was around 36 weeks I think. (We're skedded for another one next Monday at 39 weeks.) Surprisingly, our LO was measuring smaller than the 50th percentile at about five lbs. 6 oz., which is VERY unusual for GD. But my sugar levels are very well-controlled via food alone, so perhaps I'm a borderline case (diabetes does run rampant in my family, though). I wouldn't stress too much about it -- they're probably keeping a pretty close eye on you and ultrasounds are known to be as much a pound off in either direction.
But has your doc mentioned induction to you at thus far? We discussed it and it doesn't seem necessary since LO is measuring small, but my doc said if there is a size concern (or an obviously disintegrating placenta) with a GD baby, they will induce as early as 38 or 39 weeks. Also, the high risk board is a great place to ask this!
And your pic is adorable!
Hi! I have had gd with both of my pregnancies. When I took the gtt I felt so sick, I could tell right away my body was not handling it well (light headed, tired, sick to my stomach, etc). I am lucky my gd is very easily controlled, and I've only had to make minor tweaks and changes in my diet. I am definitely tired and thirsty all the time, it could be part of the gd or just pregnancy though.
With ds #1 I consistently measured 3 weeks ahead from about 28 wks on. I had growth ultrasounds at 33 wks, 5 days (6lbs, 2oz) and 36 wks, 5 days (8 lbs, 2oz). He was born at 38 wks, 4 days at 8lbs, 6oz. So, I think they were pretty close. He came on his own.
I had a growth u/s with ds #2 today - 35 wks, 5 days and he measured 6lbs, 8oz.
DS#2 has measured on target throughout this pregnancy. I also knew I had gd around 19 weeks this time. Last time I found out around 28 weeks. So, maybe controlling my sugars a little longer has helped.
Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions!
SB, you look amazing.
Jack measured at 4lbs 15 oz at 31 w 5 d. So, we're looking at similar measurements. He was in the 96th percentile. No one ordered a GD test for me, since we're dealing with BP issues anyway and will be inducing rather soon, but I would assume they will induce early and if your body doesn't respond, go in for the kill... I mean, ah, c-section.
If you are skeered or want to commiserate, FB me. I am looking forward to it too. :
Can the growth u/s be off? absolutely. For me the growth u/s was extremely accurate. ds measured 7-1 at 36w and was born 9 pounds at 40w - which was around 85%ile. Even if your estimate is a pound too high, you are still looking at a 8.5+ pound baby if you go 40w, and that is a decent sized kid to be pushing out your hoo. Ouch if the baby is a pound bigger than the estimate!!
My OB said she wishes insurance would cover a second GTT around 30-32w b/c she thinks later onset GD is not uncommon at all. If I were you, I'd be eating a GD diet as much as possible. Won't harm you or the baby in the least (truthfully probably better for both of you!) and will keep the baby from getting extra large.
Late term u/s can be off by up to 2lbs plus or minus. . .even if they are usually pretty accurate at your office. . . I wouldn't freak out too much.
DD was born at 35 weeks and weighed 6lbs 6oz, 19inches.
LO's growth u/s at 34 weeks was 5lbs 10oz, 18inches.
Obviously my little guys weren't too big. Your OB might try to induce early, encourage a c-section, or just wait and see how things go. A lot of it depends on your OB. . .
