Thoughts: Baby Changing Topper necessary?

We are getting a new dresser for DD #2's dresser.  Do I need to get a changing table topper or just put the changing table pad on the dresser...what are your thoughts?

the 2nd part, just put a nonskid mat underneath and you're good to go!

  • I just put the pad directly on his dresser
This worked fine with DS because he was not a squirmy lil guy when it came to changes .. but I have seen some babies that might not have been OK with

  • where do I get a non-skid mat?
  • Our changing pad for DS is just sitting on the dresser and we've never had a problem.

  • you could probably use the kind of non-skid mat you'd use for a small rug (can probably find at Target or Wal Mart). Just cut it to the size you need. I've also seen placemats made out of that non-skid material, that might work too.
  • we were going to do this until my grandma got us the matching changing table for our crib & were just planning on putting it right on the dresser.  most come with straps for anchoring it, so you should be good to go! i think the topper is pretty unnecessary since you won't be leaving LO unattended on the pad anyway, but that's JMO! :)
