NBR: which is more of a chick flick-Julie & Julia or The Proposal?
We have both from Netflix and my husband was pouting about having 2 chick flicks ("what happened to my picks?"--said w/ a whine). Are they both really just appealing to girls or would he actually enjoy them? I can watch them during the day-while the boys nap-or make him watch them with me. Either way, I just would like to get them watched so I can get back to my Project Runway marathon.

hmmm...does he like cooking or watching cooking shows? if so, he would probably appreciate J&J. I didn't think the proposal was too chick-flicky, I thought it was really funny and clever!
and, um, I have a new found appreciation for ryan reynolds. hummona hummona.
Julie & Julia is up next on our queue... so not sure about it.
But DH watch The Proposal and didn't think it was too bad. Still considered it a chick flick but thought it was tolerable

Ha ha, sounds like my DH! I manage both of our Netflix queues because he doesn't manage his own, so I always tell him he can't complain.
I saw J&J and it was all about the cooking - there wasn't much of a love story per se. I thought it was cute and interesting.
The Proposal - haven't seen it yet but it sounds like it is more of a chick flick to me.

DH went to see the Proposal in the theater with me because he felt like it was a total chick flick. In his eyes, Sandra Bullock + hot guy = chick flick.
J&J was a "cute" movie, but I wouldn't call it a chick flick at all. There wasn't a love story, no sex, no hot guy.
I think the Proposal is more of your sterotypical chick flick but I think guys would enjoy it too. It has quite a bit of comedy.

I have seen both and don't think either is a true chick flick.
The Proposal is more of a comedy and probably more tolerable than the average chick flick to most mainstream guys.
J&J--I have read the book and liked the movie better than the book as Julie (the author) is pretty whiny and self-absorbed in the book. The Meryl Streep/Julia scenes are really cool. If you like cooking/historical stuff, J&J will be more interesting than The Proposal. The food is really a big part of J&J. I really enjoyed the "making of" extras on the DVD as they spent a lot of time talking about the food. They also explained how they made Meryl Streep appear tall.
