The Nutramigen has worked well for a few weeks but now Robby's eczema is out of control despite the religious application of Triamcinolone and Aquaphor. He also has other rashes (hives?) on his chest which look much different than the patches of eczema. When he's awake, Robby is scratching his forehead, eyes, cheeks...whatever he can reach. HE IS MISERABLE!!
At noon today Robby had his first bottle of Neocate. (If Nutramigen was liquid gold, this stuff is liquid diamonds and can not be purchased in stores)
While the Nutramigen is more easily digestible, it works well for babies with a milk protein Intolerence. It still has casein (sp?) in it and is milk based. We suspect Robby has a milk protein Allergy which explains why he is miserable.
I'm frustrated that, knowing our family history, our Pediatrician hasn't been more proactive with Robby's care. She has given us medication (steroids which I don't like using on baby skin!) to apply to his skin and suggested we see a Dermatologist. The skin irritation is a symptom of what is going on internally. We can treat his skin over, over and over again but, that is never getting to the root of the problem.
Our Allergist wants to see him at 3pm today. We feel thankful that we're on the right path. I want my happy baby back. If the results come back that Robby indeed has a milk protein allergy the doctor can write us a form of medical necessity to submit to our insurance. DH called our insurance and it looks like they will pay up to 80% of the cost of the new formula once we have met our deductible. (more good news!)
Re: rashes, eczema, 4th formula change & Allergist appt
Poor little man
Good for you Mommy for keeping after this - keep going! Little Robby is lucky to have you in his corner. Good luck and let us know how the allergist appointment goes.
Oh I completely understand and I know it is frsutrating. We have changed formula 4 times also and we are on the Nutrimagen also. DD does not have eczema but she spits up constantly, but on this formula, where ever it lands on her body breaks out so just today the pedi so go back to the normal formula and start with cereal.
I hope the allergist can help so he is not so miserable.
Your poor little boy... awww... I feel for you all.
I'm glad the allergist will help and I'm thinking perhaps a new pediatrician is in order? Good luck with the Neocate and keep us up-to-date on Robby.

Kari I am so sorry he is itchy and miserable. Poor little guy.
BTW, I know the pics were of his skin irritations, but I just have to comment on how cute and chubby his cheeks are! I just want to gobble him up!
