Random babysitter question

A friend invited DH and I out with them Friday night. She suggested splitting a sitter.

Would you be ok leaving your LO with a sitter you previously had never met - but who's watched your friend's LO before?

It's not second thoughts perse (I know my friend is very thorough with this sort of thing), just kinda weird since I won't meet this person until it's time to drop her off with her. Not sure how to feel about it...

Our LOs are more or less the same age.

Re: Random babysitter question

  • I would totally do this, especially if friend has already vetted the sitter.

I have had to leave DD with an emergency sitter from an agency before whom I had never met and that was nerve-wracking but turned out fine in the end.

  • I would trust my friend and her selection in sitters, but what my issue is these days is DS's stranger/ seperation anxiety.  When I leave him w/ people we KNOW and to hear him cry - eh, I know he'll be fine, I know he likes the person I'm leaving him with.

But if I'm leaving him w/ someone HE has never met... that is what bothers me.

  • I think that sounds like a great situation. Get there a little early to talk to her some.

well yes, there's also this issue. we'll be leaving them at her house with someone she doesn't know. ugh!! technically it's past her bedtime, so maybe we could get her to sleep at their house and maybe she'll stay asleep?

  • Yes I would.

  • I would do it, and have done it for friends (I got the sitter and they brought their kids to our place).

I think if you trust that person's judgement, and/or would trust them to watch your child, you would trust someone they found to watch their child.  It's not like she's only recommending the sitter to you...she'll be leaving her kid with the person as well.
