What brand of baby wash/shampoo and lotion do you recommend? I was looking at Burts Bees, but it was quite expensive. Aveeno seemed like a good one, and Johnson + Johnson seems like the old standby. What products do you use and why?
How about diaper creams and ointment?
Thanks!
Re: Baby wash/shampoo/lotion
I love J&J Bedtime Bath and Lotion. Love it. Smells so good.
Desitin is a good diaper cream.
I love the aveeno baby wash, it's affordable and smells good. I was using the weleda calendula baby wash/shampoo but it's kinda pricey (worked well though).
I prefer A+D ointment, but we're using desitin right now and it seems to banish any rash pretty quickly. It's a pain to wash off your hands though.
We use Aveeno for bath. We use desitin in the purple (40% zinc oxide) vs creamy (13%) for diaper rash. I love California baby's calendula cream and lotion for dd's sensitive skin, it is pricey but worth it, otherwise Aveeno baby lotion. DD's hair is fine so J&J baby shampoo works well, but noticed that Aveeno's baby shampoo seems to work better for those static frizzy days...she was born with a lot of hair.
We've always used J&J Bedtime wash and lotion plus J&J no tears shampoo (my boy has a ton of hair) at night. In the monrings I use the regular J&J lotion (in the pink bottle) before I get him dressed. And we use Aquarphora that's in hte baby aisle with Destin for diaper rash. The Aquaphora goes on first to help the redness then the Destin seals out the wetness.
exactly the same!
We started out using J&J all over body wash (the hospital used it on her for her first bath and the smell made me melt). She was born with lots of hair though, so around 4 months we started using the J&J shampoo for curly hair (has a detangler in it) and then around 9 months we added the J&J Little Buddies conditioner after noticed her hair was getting "crunchy" in the back. We're still using J&J Nightime body wash and lotion.
Diaper cream- we've tried Desitin, Target brand Desitin, Butt Paste, Triple Paste, A&D and Target brand A&D (she's 17 months old, so we've gone through a lot of tubes!). After all of them, I wish we'd started with A&D and never tried the others. Butt Paste- fail (and we hated the smell). Desitin- OK, but she always seemed to have a few red dots of diaper rash/irritation that never fully went away. Then she developed a really bad rash and we had to use a combo of Triple Paste and Lotrimin to treat it. Triple Paste is waaaay too expensive and incredibly thick and hard to smear on/wipe off. We've been using A&D for the last 3 months- not even a hint of diaper rash.
Don't forget to pick up a tube of 1% hydrocordisone cream- it's great for treating cradle cap behind the ears or drool rash under the chin.
I love all the Aveeno products. DS has sensitive skin, and this seems to work best. We have also used Johnson and Johnson stuff because we got a bunch at our shower, I like it but it seems a little more drying.
Yes - please read over this database!! Try to avoid parabans & SLS and other chems. We switch up between California Baby & Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild. When they are really young, there isn't any need for a wash at all - just use water.
We also don't use lotion, but if DD ever seems a bit dry (only when we had the heat on in the house), I use a little olive oil (which is what I use on myself).
For butt cream, when we need it, I use either Weleda calendula cream or Burt's Bee's.
