Is anyone diagnosed as just glucose intolerant not GD?

This may be a silly question but my bff was just diagnosed as glucose intolerant after she took her 3 hour test (apparently she didnt fail the test but 1 of the 4 numbers wasnt good)--she hasnt gone to a nutritionist yet and didnt get a ton of details from our midwives about it--so my question is...have any of you recieved this diagnosis? what kind of modifications did they tell you to make? what are some of the numbers they want you to go by (how many carbs/day, sugars/day, etc)? Any info would be MUCH appreciated! (I am throwing her shower this Sat. and am trying to make sure that the food/dessert offered is something she can enjoy!)

Re: Is anyone diagnosed as just glucose intolerant not GD?

  • I don't know if this is going to help but I was diagnosed that way yesterday.  My fasting level for the 3 hour was a 99 and the cut off is 95 but all the other numbers were fine.  I spoke with the nutritionist yesterday and will have to monitor my blood sugar for the next month as though I have GD.  I have not been given a meal plan as of yet, they want me to do a food journal for the next week, eating normally to figure out what caused the abnormal reading and then they will base a meal plan around that.  So basically I wouldn't change anything in the menu yet but just have some heatthy options so your friend can chose what she wants.

  • One of my bff's was diagnosed with this with her 2nd pregnancy. Her doc told her to eat as if she did have GD but she didn't have to test her sugar levels.
