1. I love her photography.
2. Her recipes are amazing.
3. She's funny and beautiful.
4. Her children are adorable.
5. Her home is gorgeous, and it's obvious that they are a hard working, intelligent, and moral family.
But, sometimes I feel like I'm being bragged to. I recognize that I have 100% power in our relationship, and that I can discontinue the feed at any time and that I am in no way required to read her words and that she can say anything she wants to and that it's her site and she can do whatever she wants.
The recent, "Wanna' come to my lodge and eat sushi" thing is what made me realize these mixed-up feelings.
Go figure. I'm totally rambling. Feel free to flame me.
lol
Re: I have mixed feelings about The Pioneer Woman.
I feel the same way. I mostly read her blog for the recipes. Sometimes I feel like I'm not "good enough" because I only have one child and my house is no where near as clean and I can't fit everything I want to do into each day.
I know it's just a case of 'the grass is always greener' but I can't figure out how she has time for homeschooling, blogging, keeping her house clean, her photography, etc.
J/K - I don't really read her. I look at the pretty pictures and make off with her recipes. That's about it.
I'm jealous of her kitchen and all the space she has...
I really just go for her recipes.
100% this. When I read her stuff I generally get a bit green but then I remember that she has to have bad days now and then just like everyone else.
And in all honestly the same could be said about you, Glad - not the bragging part but the appearing outwardly perfect part. A lot of people are in awe of your ability to raise 2 adorable children, work full-time at a demanding business, run your own business out of your home, etc... but I'm sure you'd be the first to say that you deal with the same problems and difficulties as everyone else.
Ok, not sure where I'm really going with this.
Just a few observations...
Her book was just published, that is why she seems to be everywhere right now.
I read somewhere (here?) that her husband is the 14th largest landowner in the US. So yeah, they have money.
I have been blogging for five years (not baby blog, other blogs) and this happens. You gain a bit of fame, you make some money from ad revenue, you get comments all day telling you how utterly fantastic you are and how you changed someone's life and you try to stay humble but it becomes pretty difficult. This is actually one reason why recently I considered ending one of my blogs.
I subscribe to her photography blog on Google Reader because I have learned a lot from it.
I appreciate your frankness. I hope I have never made anyone feel badly.
I am so not perfect -- not even close. Very tired, and very stressed a lot of the time (trying to work on this), but not even in the ballpark of perfect. I have a lot of help from my mom (mostly with the kids), and a very supportive husband, both which make what I do possible.
Now...if I could only just teach the husband how to cut circles....
;-)
No, I don't think you've made anyone feel bad - not at all! It was more along the lines of - lots of us look great from the outside, but are still struggling on the inside.
And I think you should get Joshie and Joanie cutting circles for you - great arts and crafts time, right???
Lol! Can safety scissors cut hemp? You can always start a homebased kiddy sweatshop.
As for pw - I'm a pop in viewer only so I guess I've never noticed. And pixy - what has she said about her dogs?
This. And I also really struggle with the way she writes about her brother. But I also recognize that, short of facebook farming, her blog is the closest to having a salt of the earth experience (or four children) that I ever want.

Glad, are you cutting the circles by hand?
Have you thought about investing in a cricut or other machine? They're able to cut shapes out of cloth fairly easily. The only reason I want one is because it would be awesome for quilting/applique.
Great minds think alike!
Yes, and yes. The circle-cutting stuff started as a sideline to other stuff I was doing (trying to not get banned here...lol). Much to my surprise, the circles and rectangles became insanely popular. I have the rectangle-cutting down to a science, and am working on the circles. The problem with many of the machines is two-fold. 1. I use thicker fabrics than what they're designed for, and 2. I'm not willing to waste 60-70% of the fabric that goes into the machine. As such, I have investigated more efficient mechanisms and am presently saving up $$$ to get them going. They're MUCH more pricey than the retail-available products, but will be worth it in the end.
In the meantime, I have an ever-present case of the Tenniz Elboz. lol
Uhm, I think I might have quality issues if I tried this.
Heart-shaped pads, anyone? lol
Now that's a new meaning for PPH.
Mother's Day, 2011
That makes my heart hurt.
Ditto.
Yeah - this. I've never noticed the dog posts, but I ran across one of the posts about her brother that just rubbed me the wrong way, so I just go, look at what you all link to, drool over the recipes and move on. She knows how to toot her own horn... which is good in moderation.
Check out this Bumpie Business List .
It's in my Outlook, not Firefox.
Duh.
don't you "duh" me
