If I have to go on bedrest / quit working at 30-32 weeks that is when my 12 week FMLA starts. I thought I would be put on short-term disability and then once I delivered then I would go on FMLA...but not according to my HR manager. Being a woman and working sucks big time once you decide to have a child.
Thank God my mom will be watching the babies once I start working afterwards and I'll get to see them on my lunch hour...but still seems like we don't have enough time to bond with our children.
Thanks for letting me vent...
Re: Bedrest and Work...Frustrating
We don't. I think I remember hearing that in Canada they get 18m.
The exact same thing happened to me - it is very frustrating and the system totally stinks!!!! I wanted to beat up my HR person when she told me.
But that is great that your mom will be there with the babies though and that you will get to see them at lunch.
I'm moving to Canada
My state doesn't have short term disability unless you had a plan where you were paying for it long before you got pregnant. However, I just learned (through a co-worker, no HR) that my work has long term disability and that pregnancy is covered under it. I was confused because to me pregnancy is not LTD, but the insurance company is telling me that I probably qualify.
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
I feel all of your pain and frustration. I work for a large insurance company but all of their agents function as their own small business, so I actually work for an employer who has 3 employees. Because of this I do not qualify for FMLA, only Short Term Disability with the state I live in. The state has not updated their payout amount since 1989 and the max is $170 a week. I have been on bed rest since 23w1d and was told at 25w3d I would not be able to return until after the babies were born. When I went to pick up my sicktime pay out and get the STD paperwork, my desk had been packed up and I had been replaced. I have no claim on my job since the office is so small, all the employer has to do is treat everyone the same. The worst part is she never told me, so I was quite shocked to say the least, so after the STD runs out I am the lucky one who gets to file for unemployment. It is quite frustrating and just mean. Haha.
I would love to see the rules change, but who knows when that will happen.
