I've been wondering about this lately. Do they do something different with it? I know a lot of places have not eating or drinking orders in place, and I really feel like I would be passing out if I had to go for more than a few hours without eating.
When I had DD, they didn't do anything differently. My GD was completely diet/exercise controlled. However, my labor was REALLY fast (4 cm to baby out in 1.5 hours) so I didn't really have the time or inclination to eat or drink anything.
They didn't with mine. I would assume they can't have you eating and drinking in case you need a c-section. You can have ice chips.
Honestly food was the last thing on my mind. I had 22 hours of intense labour before the section and never once felt hungry. That is not like me on a regular day at all! (I did end up with a c-section).
