High-Risk Pregnancy

GD mamas I need your help!

So I am throwing a shower for my friend this Saturday, well she just found out about a week or so ago that she doesnt quite have GD yet but after her 3 hour test they said she had glucose intolerance and she has been modifying her diet ever since

So some plans have had to be changed and the shower is now going to be at a restaurant--do you all have any good suggestions of restraurants that have alot of GD friendly options?

My other question is, I want to bring in some kind of dessert-I was thinking of getting a diabetic friendly cake from our local grocery store but I am pretty sure those are made w/ artifical sweetners which she is avoiding (being pregnant and all lol) so do you all have any good dessert recipes that you have found to be yummy and okay w/ your GD? She is basically just bummed and having a hard time adjusting and I want her to enjoy at least something sweet at her shower--any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ladies!

  • Can you bake something rather then buy it?  There are a ton of diabetic friendly recipes online.

  • I would search on line to see what you can make, if you want to bake. I was told by my dr, and I am new in this GD game too. For my shower this weekend, that I could eat the cake, just not the icing. A small piece to not make a big deal (really not telling anyone) and to enjoy my shower- he said not a big deal to occasionally have a little "cheat"

Good luck!! Hope you have fun at the shower!

  • I agree baking something would be better & it would ease her mind since you would know what's in it. I would check out the nutrion for the restaurants you're thinking of online if you can, that might help decision making easier.

  • Thanks for the tip! I am actually on bedrest in the hospital so I wont actually be there but another friend took over hosting--she said she wouldnt mind to bake a dessert but I wanted to know if anybody had a specific recipe they have made that was good..im hesitant to just search, find one and make it cuz that could turn out really gross

  • When I had GD with my youngest my night time dessert was a chocolate cupcake with no icing (and of course a handful of nuts, have to have the protien). But I think the cake without the icing is a good idea.
