NPR: Need paint advice after kitchen re-do and PIPs :)

Yay!  I'm pretty excited about it.

The grout will lighten up a bit on the backsplash.  It was just done today so was still wet in the pics.  We had the countertops, backsplash, sink and dishwasher replaced.  Does the red paint still go???  If no, what color should we paint??  Would stainless steel plate covers look better?

Re: NPR: Need paint advice after kitchen re-do and PIPs :)

  • It looks awesome! I love the backsplash. I don't think stainless steel plate covers, though. I think they have a color closer to the tiles you have.

As far as paint, I don't see any red showing.

  • I think that I would definitely go with the stainless steel outlet covers, I just think that it will give it a much cleaner look. As for the walls, are there any veins of color in the new granite that you can pull from? I'm not really a "beige" person, but from the pics, it looks like something in the beige family might look really nice and put the focus on your gorgeous countertops.

    Thanks!!

Our entire kitchen/family room/nook is red.  The backsplash partly covers it but we still have a bunch of red in the family room and nook but also above the cabinets and around the door in the kitchen.  I'm not sure if i LOVE my red anymore...

  • I don't really see any red.  Where does it show? Are you meaning in your family room?  I LOVED the red in there but a new color might be fun too!

this pic shows how it's all one room...guess I didn't take a pic showing where the red still shows in the actual kitchen

  • looking at it again i would repaint the red....something more fun in the brown family.  plus, with all that new stuff, new paint would make it even pop more :)

  • Is there any green in the counter? If so, a dark olive might be cool on the walls. Otherwise, maybe dark brown or dark gray (I can't really tell what colors are in the counter). Love the kitchen upgrades -- especially the backsplash!

We have black granite counters and I can't wait to paint our cabinets white. And I'm contemplating painting our island dark red.

Yep, I agree.  And, your new stuff looks great!

  • ooh...I LOVE it!  You could go with a really warm yellow that we did in our house.  Where did you go for the granite and back splash?

  • If you're over the "pop of color" and want something more toned down (because the new renovations look awesome and you probably just want to accent them and not be too overbearing with the paint color and take away from the new changes) then I would go with something in the taupe/gray/brown family. It's not like you have to get some light boring color... and you can always do a darker accent color on one wall if you wanted to add something extra?

I love what you guys did to the kitchen though. It looks gorgeous.

  • Your new counters are beautiful!

If you want to paint, I think something like this would look fab:

  • It looks beautiful! You must love it.  I am not a fan of the red but I tend to be more on the earthy tones.  I like some of the responses you got here. I can't see what's in the granite but I agree with maybe pulling a color from there. Olive sounds nice. I used a Dried Sage or something like that from BM that was really rich. That might be nice.

Post pics after you are done. oh, and I like the idea of the stainless covers too.
