laundry smells odd

So lately we've noticed that our laundry smells odd - like not clean and kinda funky. It's especially noticeable in our linen closet.  I can't use scented detergents because they make me itch & sneeze. So I wash with a free & clear detergent - using vinegar as my softener. 

Should I lay off on the vinegar? Add a drop of EO to the vinegar/softener? Any other suggestions?

    I do recall that free and clear detergents have waxy additives in them that cause build up.  Maybe you need to switch up detergents for a bit , kind of like some people have to switch shampoos?

    Oh, and I'd also wash on hot or warm and not cold.

    maybe try some RLR in your next loads of sheets/towels etc? I felt like we had build up when I used All f&c & Sun f&c. I really like our Charlie's soap.
