Babies: 0 - 3 Months

? from 3rd tri- # of NB outfits

How many items in size Newborn should I have on hand. I had about 7 (all gifts), and then just received another 7 or so as gifts. Should I return them for larger sizes? Right now OB is approximating that the baby is 6lbs and I have 3 weeks to go, give or take.

TIA!!

  • Depends how much laundry you'd like to do. I would say probably keep at least 10. What kinds of outfits are they? Sleepers are the easiest for night time changes so keep at least 4 of those if you have that many. Keep in mind LO will poop, pee and spit up all over the outfits. It is good to have a few on hand!

  • Depends on how fast you lo will gain weight. But onies, and sleepers and few of them they tend to grow out of clothes fast! Good luck on your delivery!
  • I needed none - all but one of my NB outfits was too small for my LO (9lbs 7 oz).  I would keep them with tags on (I made the mistake of washing everything and then could not exchange them) so they can be exchanged after if needed. Also, I am not sure what the outfits look like but you may not want to put on too many pants or other outfits that have elastic around the waist until after the UC falls off, I did not put anything on LO except sleepers for the first few weeks.

  • I would keep them...

You might be surprised how large NB fits your baby.  We are just getting in the 0-3 months and she's almost 10 lbs.  Also carters fits pretty true to size.  Her NB in her carter clothes were a little bulky on the way home but we relied on them once home.

At night we do a onesie and swaddle.  Babies don't need to be super warm.  If you keep your house cool at night I would do a hat....

During the day I did a onesie, socks and baby legs.

    Good luck!

  • Make sure you don't only have footed onesies.  My LO has long legs and already cannot wear the footed things but she's not heavy/big enough for 0-3 footed things either.

The gowns are great and footless onesies and legless onesies are great.  You probably want at least 10 or so.

Ditto! Everyone told me that I would be fine with 3-4 newborn outfits and the rest 0-3 mo. LO was 7 pounds 3oz, and she was swimming in the newborn outfits for the first week at least. Even now, she doesn't really fit in the 0-3 mo outfits yet.

I would keep all of them for now, but maybe keep the tags on a few so you could return for other sizes if your LO gains weight quickly?

  • My LO has just grown out of NB. I'd say 12-15 would be perfect. People will likely give you some when youe LO is born also.

  • My LO was 9 lbs. 2 ozs. and still wore NB clothes the first two weeks or so.  I would keep most of them because we were anticipating a big baby and only had a few to start with,.  Let's just say we did a lot of laundry those first couple of weeks!
  • We have about 6 sleepers, 4 pairs of pants, 10 plain onesies, 6 patterned, long sleeved onesies, 2 sweaters and two fleece zip-up hoodies

I do laundry every other day to wash blankets, burp cloths, clothes and towels.?

  • I wouldn't buy anything else.  My LO skipped NB all together and is already in 3-6 month clothes

All hosptial nurses and pedi says baby should never sleep with a hat on.. Its a sids risk for suffication...

  • She is just now in 0-3 month outfits.  LO is pretty short though and that's the problem.  Once she fit the length of NB she is too big around.  The 0-3 are still too long but at least her belly can breathe.  She lived in the footie pj's.  She screamed in anything else.  Now she wears pants and the baby legs and doesn't fuss.  I went through at least 2 outfits/day so I would say keep all of them.  I didn't wash everything though incase she was too big.
