Might have a thyroid issue....

Went to the doc for a unrelated issue... And asked about how I have been really hungry lately... And Kai has actually been spacing out his feeding - so it doesn't seem like a growth spurt... Seriously - I eat all day long and am always starving... These hunger pains have been non stop for at least a week... My weight might be getting affected too... 117 is a good weight for me and I am down to 110... They took some blood... So now we wait... Anyone else have thyroid issues?

  • I do. I found out after my LO was born because I was tired all the time (after he started STTN so not related to that), I have always had a hard time keeping weight on, and I was shedding hair like crazy. They put me on the meds and everything got tons better.

That is one of the main symptoms I think. Well the blood work will tell for sure! If it is a thyroid issue it is not always a permanent thing. There are "situational" types of thyroid issues that happen a lot after women have babies. Good luck!

  • I do. I had hyper thyroid which it sounds like you could too. I drank radioactive idodine to get rid of my thyroid and now I am on meds for the rest of my life. I'm not gonna lie it sucked getting my levels right. It messes with you a lot. I would just cry for no reason. But they keep track of it really well, escpecially when pregnant. Good luck. Keep us updated. :)
  • It sounds like you may have postpartum thyroid issues which are pretty common and luckily can go away on its own sometimes.

My LO is 18 months now and about 6 months ago I lost a ton of weight, lost crazy amount of hair, had night sweats, dry scaly skin and quite a few other random things and it turns out I have hashimotos disease. I have chosen to not take meds yet and am just really trying to take better care of myself. I am sure I will be on thyroid hormones eventually but for right now, eating better, taking supplements, and taking me time is helping.

Make sure your dr. tests all the thyroid stuff, not just tsh. These sites were helpful to me

Unfortunately thyroid issues are kind of an endless black hole of symptoms but at least if you know what it wrong you can start looking into getting better. I really hope you feel better soon!

  • Yep, I have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed about 6 or 7 years ago (waaaaay pre-preg).  The symptoms I had were wevere exhaustion and lack of energy (like coming home at 5pm and going to bed), weight gain, and my hair started growing out tough and black (it's normally wavy and brownish-red).  Some of your symptoms sound like it could go the other direction with an overactive (hyper) thyroid.  Either way, it can be controlled with medication and from what I've heard, it's not unusual to have thyroid problems after having a baby.  I carried DD and BF on medication without any problems.
