When do they start checking your cervix?

I hear so many situations where women end up having a shortening cervix during a multiple pregnancy and I'm just wondering when the OB starts checking. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'd like them to start because I'm getting nervous, but I wasn't sure what protocol was. And when do they do check - how do they do it? Is it by ultrasound or by exam?

    I'm having triplets and I have growth scans every 2 weeks, so I may be a little different.  My MFM is supposed to start checking my cervix at 16w (tomorrow) by hand.  At my 14 and 12w u/s they looked at it by u/s.

    mine was done via u/s at every visit until 32 weeks, when it was first checked manually.

    My peri checks via u/s at every visit.  I have had it checked manually a couple times at the OB but that was because of random goings on...i.e today I went in for brown spotting.

    My MFM checks at every appt via u/s and now I will also have weekly checks with my OB.

    My OB started bi-weekly checks at 18 weeks via transvaginal u/s.

    Mine first started at my big ultasound at 20 weeks via transvaginal u/s.  They found my cervix was short at that point (2.4cm) so I was put on modified bedrest and get my cervix checked every 2 weeks now.  Whenever I go in now, they just check by hand.

    I had mine checked by vaginal u/s for the first time today when I went in for my scheduled ultrasound.  I know they'll check it once a month when I go in for my monthly ultrasounds... not sure when my OB will start checking by hand. 

    I get monthly ultrasounds with my identical twins as long as they both maintain the same weight (which they have).  If one starts to get bigger, the plan changes.

    Mine was checked at every appt.  If they couldn't get a good read on it via u/s, then I would have an internal.

    The first time I know of mine being checked was at my 20-week u/s (it was 5.5 cm so no worries).  I'm not sure whether they checked at later ultrasounds, if they did I never heard about it.  The first time I was checked manually was between 36 and 37 weeks just because my OB wanted to see if I was making progress on my own before my scheduled induction.

    My maternal fetal doctor wants to test me every 2 weeks from week 16 on for like 2 months.  Not sure if he plans to do it after my  4 visits.  They do it with ultrasound for me plus it give me another look at the babies which gives me some peace in knowing they're still okay.
