39 weeks internal/membrane stripping ?

Hey girls! 

I had my 38 week appt on Friday and my 39 week appt today.  Both times, my OB tried to strip my membranes (tried being the operative word, as I'm just not dilating!) and OMG was it painful!!!  I was seriously shaking when it was over today!! Are your internals this painful??  I'm starting to doubt my ability to deal with labor if I can hardly get through these exams! ;)

Since then I've had spotting which I expected, but I've had a few chunks of dischargy stuff that seem like they'd be part of my mucus plug, too.  Should I be excited that I'm starting to lose it, or is it just a side effect of the messing around this morning?

Oh, and do you think a "fingertip" dilated is any progress from Friday's "all closed up!" ?  I didn't think to clarify because I was too distracted by the freaking exam!

Thanks for any input or any of your experiences!  I know any "progress" doesn't actually mean anything, but it definitely helps to think I'm getting something out of all these BH!!

    GL and hope it works this time!

    I just had my internal and membranes stripped today and neither hurt at all. I was dilated to 2cm and almost all effaced before she did it and after she said I was 3cm.  My OB is pretty confident it worked (I hope so too!) I have not had any "chunks" so maybe it was your MP?

    I'd say that any progress is progress, even if it is only a fingertip.

    I was nothing last week and a finger tip today so yeah, I would say that is progress, no matter how little.

    awesome! :)  He also said my cervix was softer than Friday, too, so now I'm feeling encouraged!

    I was 2cm at my appointment on Monday when my ob was feeling around my bag of water to make sure that it was not leaking.  She said that what she did was "essentially stripping membranes."  She also made me promise to not tell the on call dr at the hospital last night that it was her fault if I showed up. haha.  It didn't matter.  I have not NO changes what-so-ever.  No change in discharge, no change in braxton hicks, and no contractions.

    I hope yours was more successful than mine.  Sorry it was so painful.  A fingertip is more than nothing... not much more and doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it is good for your sanity! ;)

    That was probably your mucus plug. I lost part of it after my internal last week and then lost the rest after my internal today. It was bloody with chunks like you described.
