Who has had a hysteroscopy?

I'm starting to talk with SIRM in St. Louis.  He has suggested I have one of these done.  I've been with my RE for a year and he's done a lap, but never looked inside my uterus.  If you've had one, I'd love to hear your experience!

Re: Who has had a hysteroscopy?

  • I just had one a couple of weeks ago.  I was under sedation, so I didn't feel anything until I woke up.  When I woke up I had cramps.  They found a septum and also found out I had an infection (endometritis)

I'm on antibiotics for 6 weeks and then on to IVF.  I'm glad I did the hysteroscopy.

Right after the procedure I also started estrace.  I took it for 2 weeks and then had a really gross AF.

  • I've had a bunch of these done.  For mine I've been put under.  So it seems like no big deal.  Slight pain afterward, and some bleeding.  But really no big deal unless they have to remove something.  But I've had fibroids and polyps removed and haven't had any complications.  Good luck.  I've heard great things about SIRM.

  • I had mine done during my laparoscopy, so I can't really give you any details of what the procedure itself is like.  They didn't find anything abnormal on mine though.

  • I had one to remove a polyp. It was a very easy surgery. A little cramping and barely any blood. I was able to go back to work the next day.

  • I had one in August to remove a uterine mass. Super easy recovery, I had no pain at all really. The anesthesia was the worst part of all of it for me.

  • I had one a few months ago and nothing was found. It was about 5 minutes of intense pain/AF cramps. Afterward I was fine.

  • I had one back in September because my RE thought I had a septum. It wasn't that bad - I was under for about 30 minutes total and then afterwards I had a little bit of cramping and spotting.

I didn't end up having the septum so there was no actual surgery - she just looked around, removed a little bit of scar tissue and was done.

  • I've had a diagnostic and an operative hysteroscopy.  I'm assuming your RE is recommending a diagnostic one.  Mine wasn't too bad.  Much like an HSG, I took 800 mg of ibuprofen before hand and the pain was comparable as well.  I had some cramping when the camera was inserted, but once it was in it wasn't bad.  I was awake the entire time and I was able to watch the procedure.

The diagnostic hysteroscopy revealed that I had scar tissue in my uterus, so the operative hysteroscopy was scheduled soon thereafter.  For that, I was put under general anesthesia and the scarring was removed.  I had a bit of bleeding and cramping afterward but it only lasted a short time.  I was feeling back to normal the following day.

  • I'm having my second on Friday, and like PP, they are not bad at all as you are usually put under or given a twilight w/a local.  GL!

  • I had one a few weeks ago. It was quite simple outpatient surgery. I had a conscious sedation, so I was fully awake the whole time, just a lil loopy. They found that I had 4 polyps so they conducted a polypectomy while they were in there to remove them. Recovery time was pretty instantaneous for me, I could've totally gone right back to work if they had let me drive myself!
  • Mine was easy peasy! WAY better than my HSG. I got put under, they did the surgery, I woke up. I was a little crampy for the rest of the day, but I got pain pills so it was no biggie.
