Very off topic.

Baby names. I know there is a board for this but they just bashed the crap out of my names. I wanted to hear honest but gentle opinions from girls I trust. :]

Landon Carter or Landon Michael for a boy. IDK which one I like better.

and..

Brynlee' Naomi for a girl. (yes the accent mark is supposed to be there)

They told me my little girl would be made fun of in school, would resent me for naming her that, and would never get a good job or get accepted into a good college with that name. Is that true?

OH! They also told me the "y" looks tacky and makes me look dumb.

Re: Very off topic.

  • I love Landon Carter (favorite character from my favorite chick flick!)

The Y in them though, I don't care for, to be honest.

I like the look of Brynlee' but how do you pronounce it?

  • I'm so sorry they made fun of you.  I love Landon.  Try not to worry about other people's opinions too much... someone, somewhere will always disagree with you so there is no reason to try to please everyone.  Choose a name that YOU love.
  • Bryn like you are saying Brenda and then Lee. :]

And I know. I just LOVE A Walk to Remember. That's where I got the idea from. LOL

  • "OH! They also told me the "y" looks tacky and makes me look dumb."

     WTF?

Have you SEEN some of the names on these boards???  I have seen people make comments about their idea of crappy names... then you go look at their LO's name and it's some off the wall EFFed up name.

I think the names are cute...  I wouldn't personally go with Landon Michael unless you were doing that to intentionally name your kid after the actor Michael Landon.  And The Brynlee name is cute without the accent mark.  I DO think the accent mark would make things difficult at times but I don't think your kid would be made fun of OR not get jobs and stuff.  That's just dumb.

I was about to scratch the girl name all together and start over, although that's the name I've had in mind since day one. It was the boy name I had troubles with.

  • Who is Michael Landon? They said something about that but I've never heard of him.

    nvm. I googled it.

Yeah I thought that was a little harsh too. My mom got plenty of scholarships and never got made fun of for her e'. My cousin Rene' is a corporate manager and my cousin Tiffanee' is a nurse. I didn't think it was as horrible as they said it was.

  • Some very famous people have strange names, these few come to mind:

    Cokie Roberts

    Condolezza Rice

    Tipper Gore

It's a name, would it be a name I choose no, but she will do with her name what she will.

  • I like both names although not crazy about the accent on Brynlee'.  Do what you want to regarding names.  I think it is not the best idea to ask for other people's opinions because names are unique to the person.  I can't believe the bump has a whole board dedicated to the topic-yawn!

  • This is the reason I didn't want to share my names with anyone. Everyone has opinions, like assholes...lol. You have to live with the name, DC will not know anything different, so all will be fine. As long as you stay away from names like LaDonna, Bambi and Tambi (yes I know AT LEAST one of each!) you should be safe!

  • LOL! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wack-o by naming my child that. I think I'm pretty set on the girl name. It's the middle name for the boy that has me scratching my head.

Any suggestions? Landon         ? I'm not set on a middle name. I just like the first. :]

    Oh dear.

  • And the fact the you had to google Michael Landon makes me feel old...lol. He was grandmother's favorite actor!!

  • LOL! I've seen Little House on the Prairie a few times, but I watched it with my maw-maw. *giggles*
  • Lol oh okayy!

If it's a boy, def. Landon Carter <3!

If a girl, Amanda Lynn hahha kidding!

  • Not a fan of the accent mark, but I like the name brynlee.  Love the boy names!

  • sorry, but i'm not a fan of either of them.  But I am also not naming YOUR child.  If you love it, use it.  If you don't, find something else.  Who cares what other people think. . .

  • "LOL! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wack-o by naming my child that. I think I'm pretty set on the girl name. It's the middle name for the boy that has me scratching my head."

I think they are pretty wack-o.  If you ask for advice, take it.  Switching to another board and asking for sympathy when you were the one who posted for advice is ridiculous.

  • I love Landon for a boy, and either middle name would work.

I think they were a little harsh about the girl's name.  Although it's NMS, I really doubt that it will affect her ability to get a job or get into a good college.  Actually now, the more I say it, I think it does sound pretty.  But I don't know about the spelling, I think people will mispronounce it a lot and she will constantly have to spell it out for people.  I'm a big fan of using the most common spelling.

  • I also just wanted to add that I think it's ridiculous when people say that a certain name is too trendy or won't be taken seriously professionally.  By the time our kids are in their 20s, all of the "trendy"  or unique names of today will be the normal and common names for people their age.  Does that make sense?

Sure does. Makes a lot of sense. :]

Yeah, Michale Landon was the first thing I thought of for that one too.   But I think we've already established that I'm the old fart of the board. Stick out tongue  I do really like the name Landon though.

And I like Brynlee.  It's not my style but I don't see how it's awful on any level.  Brynly might make me do this Hmm but with one Y, I think it's fine.   At any rate, I recently saw a news story about a grown woman name Marijuana Pepsi who is a college counselor.  Brynlee is not even close being in that WTF league and Ms. MariJ Pepsi obviously did just fine!  LOL

I cannot believe a mother would name her child this! Of course I went to school with a boy named Shithead... pronounced shi-thed. Yeah the subs always got his name wrong. It was sad.

  • I like Landon Carter of the two choice, Landon Michael makes me think of Little House on the Praire.

Your girls name, honestly, looks like something a High School student would call her Home Ec. project. Sorry. I think it's a pretty name when spelled correctly.

  • I'm a total lurker but I wanted to weigh in.  I agree with the whole Michael Landon reference though I like the name Landon.  My niece is Brynley.  Brynley Catherine.  She is the most amazing, funny 5 year old.  It's a great name. I am not a fan of the spelling or the apostrophe.
  • Tell those b*tches to bite it. I've seen some of the names they post. I go there when I'm bored.

  • Oh, and I like all the names.

Can I tell you how funny it is that you are calling me a troll?  The idea that an honest response to a question = troll-like behavior is, um, silly.

  • Um, she's not a troll. Just because someone posts an opinion that is different from yours does not make them a troll.

  • I like them both...I have heard of some crazy names but to each his own...When I announced I had chosen a name for my baby girl, I got a lot of crap....like..how do you pronounce it?  What does it mean?  No one on the boards ever attacked me but the boards seemed to be a little different a year ago LOL!!  It is YOUR child and YOUR decision...Who cares what others think...23 years ago my mom chose my name and back then, ppl. were picking Erica, Jessica, Amanda, and she wanted it to be a little different...She named me after one of her favorite actresses...Cheryl Ladd.  I chose Cadance because it is different...So heck with all the ppl. attacking you for the name YOU chose for YOUR baby!!  I hardly ever post anymore, things seem to be getting out of hand lately, which is sad, sad, sad!!

  • I think I'm going to go with it. To hell with what everyone thinks, right? Thank you ladies. :] Y'all are great!

  • I like the current spelling you have in the OP.  I looked over at the post on baby names and it was spelled differently (Landyn Karter).  I think that's why you got the reaction that you did.  Its a running joke over there to see who puts a Y in place of a vowel, and you did just that.

BTW, to Ladyaylena- BostonGayGirl is a regular, not a troll, and she calls em like she sees em.  No sugar coating, and sometimes we all need that.

I didn't like that spelling to begin with to be honest. I was told if I'm going to name him Landon that I had to put a "y" in the name. (X's brother was a Jayson. He passed away a while back.) But you know what I say? To hell with what he says. He doesn't call to check up on the baby anyways. Why the F would I give him his way on a spelling, or even a name. LOL.

I told Db that if he wanted to weigh in on the baby's name, then he needed to step up and be involved in the pg.  (I was high risk and had to be at the dr and the peri every week from 20 weeks on.)  If not, he doesn't get an opinion.  I chose the baby's first name and I let Pumpkin choose his middle name,  Jackson Lee.  My ex didn't like either one of those names, but I didn't care one bit.
