Canada Babies

Random Question!

Hey ladies. I tried google to no avail, so I thought I would post here.

DH father is a Canadian citizen and lives in Nova Scotia (we live in North Carolina), he has agressive Prostate Cancer and was told that because he is over the age of 70 in Cananda, they are not allowed to operate, preform chemo, radiation, etc. He did have an out patient surgery. We are trying to find info and we can't find anything to back up the no treatment/surgery law. DH brother is up there with him, but he is no help at all. Any info you could give me would be great. Thanks!

Re: Random Question!

  • Hi there, so I briefly looked into your question and was told there is no such law in Canada ( and I didnt think so either). If you cant find any information I could ask my doctor about this when I go for my next prenatal??

  • I have never heard of this. My grandfather had lung cancer at 80+ and was offered treatment (he declined).
  • Oh and there is a nurse on the Canada Nest board who deals specifically with cancer. She may be able to help you (can't remember her name).
  • Thanks. We are really confused because we are getting bits of info from different family members and his dad is not hearing well so it is hard to talk directly with him. Maybe he chose not to have anything preformed due to his age because the advised against it. I am waiting to hear back, I re-asked the question again to someone looking in on him. So frustrating!

  • I have never heard of someone denied of care because of age.  Just try another doctor.
