As a child was your H responsible for anything around the house? Is it totally obvious now as an adult? This is so my "my kids will not be like that" thing. haha.
Last night when we were doing dishes and it was like pulling teeth to get him to help me/finish up a few things I flat out asked him if he ever had to wash dishes or clean up when he was little. Nope. LOL, this explains so much. How did it take me almost 10 years to figure this out.
His big job was to put his plate by the sink. He was expected to practice his guitar/trombone when older. His dad was a music teacher and both sides of the family are very musical with family bands. He had a big chart that squares were filled in after every 20 minutes of practice. He got a dirt bike when he did X number of hours.
My steps to cleaning after dinner:
-put all food away
-load dishwasher
-wash pots and pans and highchair
-wipe down table, counter, stove and fridge handle and micro wave
-sweep the floor
-clean the sink
H's method:
-load dishwasher as full as possible including pots
-leave the rest to "soak"
-get around to putting food in the fridge
-pots or pans still on the stove aren't included
Re: Did your DH do "chores" growing up?
Nope - and I've given up on him and am focusing on training ds!!!
DH will leave garbage on the counter - the counter that is above the garbage can. He will leave dirty plates/cups NEXT to the sink. You can usually find him by following a trail of tissues, socks and various pieces of clothing.
He is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky I love him!
OMG are we married to the same man?
I've also asked DH exactly what chores he was responsible for when he was growing up and it turns out he didn't have any. When the house is a mess and I'm the only one trying to make it clean, I find myself getting angry at his mom. I'm all fired up now, LOL.
Seriously my dh leaves tissues and socks everywhere. Drives me crazy, I even bought him a 'hankie' for his birthday so he didn't have tissues everywhere!
hahahahah! My mom and I just had a conversation yesterday about the "soaking" phenomena. Everything they eat out of has to "soak" and what that really means is sit there until the other person puts it away.
My DH however was raised in a household where he did a lot of chores. Now that his mommy isn't here to make him do them, he takes advantage of his live in maid: me.
OMG yes this! All day I use one coffee/tea mug and a water cup. DS gets one cup for water and a fresh cup for milk. H comes home and in the matter of 3-4 hours uses like 5 glasses. The weekends the dishes are ridiculous.
There will be a laundry basket on the floor and he throws his socks beside it. BESIDE it.
My DH is fanatic about outdoor chores - lawn, landscaping, anything garbage/recycling related, and it is probably because his dad made him do outdoor chores.
He isn't as good with the indoor stuff, but he does take out the garbage and straighten up. He will also do laundry and dishes, but usually only if I ask.
