s/o febrile seizures

The last time DS had a fever of over 104, the pediatrician recommended a lukewarm bath.  I talked to my Dad who is a family practice doc and he was pretty upset.  He said that the water can cause the fever to drop too suddenly and that is a time when a lot of kids have seizures.  He recommended a wet cloth, but not the whole bath.

  • Yup, we found that out the hard way.  DS had roseola last fall and his temp was outrageous.  The advice nurse told us to try a lukewarm bath repeatedly and when we did, DS ended up with seizures.  I'll never do it again.
  • My father, who is also a physician told us the same thing. In fact, since it's winter our house is not that warm (after you get out of the shower/bath at least!!), and it caused major chills in my DS. I felt awful about it, but was glad that I was informed after speaking to my Dad!
  • Thanks for the info.  This is why I appreciate all of you Bumpies so much.  I learn things I never would have known.
