WDYT? Baseless Infant Car Seat?

We got a carseat that includes a base, but, in the reviews, someone mentioned that it's nice because it's also one that doesn't NEED a base to function/be safe, so it was nice to use in multiple vehicles.

I'm not sure if I really feel that safe with it, but I know so many people who have infant seats that don't have a base and they're all fine. So, what does everyone else think?

  • I thought that they all needed a base, this is news to me.

  • The base is so so so much safer.

We used our infant car seat a few times while traveling and had to install it without a base in cabs/rental cars and it was really hard to get it secure and tight.

  • I am confused by your question.. your comes with a base but you don't have to use the base?? I like the ones with a base so I can just get other bases for family members and only have one carrier
  • I did this once or twice with DS and his carrier when someone else was driving and I didn't have the base. I thought it was a pain because in my opinion in order to get the car seats really tight you need to push down a little as the seat belt tightens, and I always try to shake it to make sure it's really snug, so I would install the seat and then put DS in it. It was secure enough, but I always felt more comfortable with the base.

The reviewer pointed out that it was nice to not have to move a base from car to car, like, if she was riding with a friend or something and didn't want to move the base out of her car for one afternoon.

  • My friend uses hers to run to the store if her husband has the base.  She said it's great to have if there's an emergency...but they use the base on a daily basis.

I think it's a good idea that someone came out with...but i feel safer with the base!
